Classic British Flight Sim

Maybe not very FS related but i am having a problem with a new external DVD drive i bought as the dvd drive of the laptop has stopped working. DVD films work fine but if i try to run any software from the disc drive it seems unable to find the drive although it is connected and i can browse the drive from my computer. Does anyone have any ideas so i can get it to work?
