Hi All, is it possible to transfer the great VC night lighting from the -510ED to the standard BAC 1-11 panel?I really like the new post lighting effects on the -510ED as compared to the standard 1-11

Hi Stan... I may be wrong here, but the lighting effects are now in all of the models. Make sure your downloading them from DM's site (http://www.dmflightsim.co.uk) and that you are over writting the older files when it is installed.

You can alter the VC night lighting on the 1-11 model, but you'd have to paint the light splashes yourself to match the positions of the instruments.
It's not actually that hard to do if you've got a reasonable idea with painting bitmaps.
There is a freeware program called DXTbmp by Martin Wright that allows you to edit & save the DXT3 texture files that it uses to do the lighting.
The textures themselves are held in the main FS \texture folder.

Note that they don't have & must not have a '.bmp' extension for them to work. Don't know why.

The 510ED panel is not an improved version of the night lighting technique, though. The aircraft just have different styles of lighting.
The regular 1-11 doesn't have the post lighting, it has flood lighting.
I agree that the post lighting effect looks better in FS than the floodlighting effect, but that's just the way it is.

This is the similar flood lighting style on the VC10 simulator at Brize Norton, also shows the same backlit style overhead as the 1-11.

The night lights will still be flood lights though. That's right isn't it?

They're all rheostat controlled on the 1-11, so I assume each crew could adjust to their preference. Sadly not possible in FS.

The 1-11 model is not as bright as that above, but it may still be too bright. Dunno really. It was toned down slightly in one of the updates a few months back.
A lot depends on the bloody stupid FS moon as well. You catch the moonlight on the panel & it's rather bright, turn 180 degrees & it's a lot darker.

I'm open to suggestion. Does anyone think it should be turned down some more?

From a practical point of view that last shot looks fine Dave. If your flying at night, any dimmer would make it hard to see... although appreciate it may not have been that way in reality.

That doesn't look too bad DM though for night flying, if the instruments are backlit (or side lit off pedestal lamps) I prefer no flood at all as it ruins my night vision Certainly, the level in that shot isn't too bad at all
