whilst reading through some stuff this morning came across this article posted about the DX10.
well as per normal MS are bragging about something that don't work and will take another year to get right. until then make your own mind up about FSX.

I'm in no rush to install FSX again.

I'm quite happy with FS9

I dont normally pay much attention to the inquirer tbh.
Hardly anybody will have DX10 hardware anyway, and those that do I would imagine they wouldnt play with FS :)

DirectX 10 gaming is still far away - at least till late Q1 2007 for the first title, at least that is what we believe. µ
This may well be the case, but I still would recomend that anyone investing in new graphics hardware seriously conside a DX10 capable card. DX9 is dead and DX10 hardware is backwardly compatible with DX10.

But how can the manufacturers release DX10 hardware without knowing what kind of equipment and capabilities DX10 will need to have on the card? ACES team members stated as recently as last week that even *THEY* still hadn't received the final specs for DX10 nor the SDKs for it to be able to finish the DX10 engine for FSX. The normal progress is for the software developers to get the specs first, then the hardware developers, and then to release the code/program/drivers whenever a certain percentage of those who will be building for the new spec have their products ready to release.

Chris,

Sounds like ACES are making excuses as the release SDK's have been widely available for several months. DX is updated every month anyway, so I'm sure there will continue to be updates. ATI are close to releasing their DX10 cards, and we already know that NVIDA have theirs out.

The DX10 release SDK? Where? Something like that would have been pretty loudly proclaimed by the developers other than ACES who were waiting on them.

As for ACES - why would they need to make excuses? They can't release FSX with the DX10 engine until DX10 available anyway.

Been running DX10 since the end of November mate... Its in Vista and I'm running Vista Enterprise on three machines (Including my FS one, but I won't tell work about that  ) Its not a hacked Vista either as the release version has been available to Volume License customers with an Enterprise agreement since late November, so its all above board. Whats more, the Decemver 2006 DX Update includes some updates for DX10 as well as DX9.

DX10 SDK has been available to MSDE developers and Hardware partners since August.

I was gonna say that this means 'put that in your pipe and smoke it' but I won't as it's Christmas and I'm feeling festive  Once more.. a case of 'don't believe everything you're told by M$' as for one, they make an awful lot of money out of the corporate user
