Dove panel

Quick question on the Dove.
On the gyropilot panel there are two small toggle switches to the bottom
right.
Are these the beam and approach hold switches by any chance? :dance:

Hello Dave.
I thought you might answer as you seem to be the Dove expert.
I've noticed it turns onto the ILS beam but doesn't descend down it.
Is that right?

Hiya Mark,
Not sure why you're seeing that matey :think: I'm currently at Ostend in one of the VA's Viking's and have just done a cct in the Dove which tracked the ILS perfectly.. 2 reds/2 whites all the way down.
Make sure you are in ALT and HDG lock.. turn NAV off as the ILS becomes active (both axis) then select APP. You will see HDG and ALT lock disengage and the old girl will go down the beams as sweet as a nut
I don't often use the Doves AP to land but as a general rule of thumb.. wait until the vertical pointer is almost bang on the centre position before engaging APP.. the least work it has to do, the better
I certainly wouldn't try an autoland but even this is possible with a decent handful of throttle just prior to TD. She's only 5ft off the deck so don't leave it too late!!
