DM Trident VC's - missing textures in FSX?

Yippee guys finally activated - Thanks to dave & Rick, cheers guys!!
This is my first post here so here goes;
I have successfully installed DM Tridents into my FSX set-up with nice resized thumbnail views etc. they look and sound awesome and i cant wait to fly one (never did in FS9 - silly boy).
However (and i've tried everything I can think of) i cannot get all the textures to load for the VC's? I get the Panel/Overhead/Throttle quad & sometimes the seats & yokes (this baffles me as they only appear now and again?) - all the side views/cockpit surrounds are missing (no i'm not in 2d mode & btw their missing too)) and replaced by a horrible biege nothingness, in fact everything without a panel is missing, i can pan ok and all externals are fab!
I notice in the DMFS Shared Files folder theres a folder called 'textures' - i've tried moving these to the panel.vc folder to no avail, also a lot of the texture files dont appear to be referred to in the vc panel.cfg? and when i try to view these files I get a 'drawing failed' message.
Could i have downloaded a duff file? it was all from Daves site btw.
Any help would be gratefully recieved,
hi to everyone,
Mick

Hi Mick
Welcome aboard
I think it is to do with shared textures which FS.X won't support at the moment.....they sit in a common folder in FS9
I think you will need to copy the contents of that folder into each of the Trident paints.
You will finds the shared folder on the main FS9 folder in DMFS Shared Files with various in there, if you still have it, or re download the Trident extract to temp and look for the folder called Trident panel VC in DMFS shared and copy the contents into each paint.
Give that a try

Hi Garry,
It
does, but it requires setting up by the user.
A file called 'texture.cfg' needs to be made and needs to sit in each texture folder.
In there, you can link to other directories.. in this case, a shared texture folder. I don't know the folders' directory so below is just an example:
Code: Select all
[fltsim]
fallback.1=..\texture
fallback.2=..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture
fallback.3=..\..\..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture

Hi Dan
Right perhaps some kind of mod can be set up...of course really therTrident will still not be totally OK as it is not an FS.X model
If you place a texture in the aircraft paint texture folder that is a part of a shared folder then the aircraft one takes priority over the shared one.
That is why I would have thought dumping them in the aircraft paint would do it without any other adjustments.
Maybe FS.X or the fact it's VC makes a difference

Hi Garry,
I'm not at all disputing your method: it will work, I'm sure.
As far as ease and filesize go though, it may be better to make a cfg and copy it into relevant folders rather than copying a load of bitmaps.. as per the original idea of having them in a shared folder.
Don't get me wrong, for I'm only trying to help!
Dan.

Hi Mick, and welcome to the forum
I think the texture.cfg method only works with native FSX aircraft, not ones designed for FS9. (at least I've not got it to work yet

)
Best bet is to do as Garry suggested and copy the files to each texture folder.

Ah.. bugger.. sorry for misinforming then. I've only tried it with my SE5a and that IS an FSX thang..
Go Garry!

Hi Dan
No probs mate
We all have our ideas and somewhere the right solution is found
Any debate causes thought and understanding increases from that.
I don't have FS.X so I was purely basiing it on FS.9 experience and then wondering if there was something else.
Thanks for you input

Hi Guys
the texture.cfg trick will only work if the model is compiles with XtoMDL.exe.
the only way is to have the generic textures from the FS9 texture folder
or wherever DM hid them in every liveries texture folder.
Same for my HS748/780 & Argosy.
we tried to save everyone space but Aces have made a big mess for everyone to enjoy
Regards
Rick

Thanks guys,
Have I got this right?
I move the textures from the Shared VC folder & from the extra folder called 'textures' into the texture folder of each trident?
i'm at work presently so cant remember the file names - the ones in 'texture' are named something like DMTRIVCPANEL_ .....!
I shall try this out tomorrow - I take it this has worked for you guys?
