Classic British Flight Sim

Avro York ident lights. On our drawings, the York has nav/ident lights on the leading and trailing edge of the wing tips. Anyone know if the the trailing edge lights were the same colour as the forward lights.

Slight delay with York and some bad news, she won't have opening doors. Having major probs with some gauges. Fuel Tank Selector gauge (control which tanks feed the engines, a fuel transfer gauge and an autopilot with a lever operated vert speed control. Can anyone help with these. Please, on my knees and begging if it helps.

Are you having trouble with locating pictures of these gauges or with writing the code? Can't help with the pictures but if you can provide picture/photos I can probably make the gauges!

I'll have a look at the shots I have of the Cosford example Paul. They're reasonably detailed as they were for another York project that never got finished :sad:

No use I'm afraid. The Cosford YorkC1 only has standard red/greens. There is no sign that she ever had any other lamps on the wing tips.

There is a very long-standing international agreement that coloured wingtip nav lights on any aircraft should not be visible from astern: usually, this means that the forward-facing red/greens are visible round to about 130deg (from straight-ahead).

This would imply that any aft-facing lights at the wingtip could only be white.

However, Dave B's observation that the York at Cosford has no such lights raises the question "is the drawing correct?". Probably period photos are the answer, but who photographs wingtips?

What Paule is refering to are the formation lights that the lancaster wing would have had aft of the regular nav lights - Im sure some one will correct me they would have been low intensity white or blue as they were designed for aircraft that were in formation to see and be able to maintain position.
Im assuming that the York that DaveB isa talking about is NTK that sat at Lasham? If that is the case then hes 100% right it DIDNT have the aft lights
not even covered over as Dan Air Maintenance rebuilt both wingtips on that aircraft prior to being handed over to the Boy Scouts due to an embarassing Hangar door accident (it was one of those "Legends" that get passed around airlines. LOL

Of course - I'd forgotten the formation lights. They are rarely (if ever) represented in flightsim but are vital for close night formation work irl. As you say, low intensity, and my guess would be blue rather than white - blue seemed to be the Transport Command standard, at least.

The Cosford York is ex AGNV (previously TS798) and was certainly retired by Skyways at Luton (64) making her final flight to Staverton in the same year. She was acquired by the RAFm in '72, moved to Brize for refurb in '73 and finally to Cosford in '76

There is always a danger in 'seeing is believeing' with any museum piece mind you and closer inspection of the wingtip shot I have indicates that she may have had formation lamps fitted at some point as the rear tip has a section which coincides proportionally with the glass fronted front lamp section and it's rivets are not to the same spec as the rest of that area of wing. Speculative at best but I'm sure Hercule Poirot would not discount it

I would say that was a rather good bit of detection all round - I remember
Staverton aircraft - so where pray tell did the Lashup York wind up???

As far as I remember G-ANTK ex Lasham is at Duxford.

Hi Leif,

Garry is on the button there. NTK was the aircraft looked after by the DAPG and was the Air Cadets bunk house at Lasham. DA operated her from '56 until '64 but the airframe stayed there until it was transported by road to Duxford in '86 (5 months before the Lizzie arrived)
