Gmax bible

I bought Gmax Bible off eBay for 50p. It didn't come with the CD (I knew that!).
Anyone got it - is the CD useful, or just filler?
If it's of use, then I reckon I better find a way of getting a copy.

Hi Ian
Gmax is on disc 1 or 4 of FS9 ("extras" folder i think)
It's also on FSX deluxe disc 1.
Hope that helps.
Think it was also on FS2002 deluxe disc.

Rick,
I have gmax from several sources (including the reg crack). It was whether the example files on the CD with the book are worth having.

Stupid idiot's guide to GMAX is good that i read from Simviation i think.

One day soon (when I retire or semi-retire) maybe I'll get busy with gmax. My wife has fairly recently completed an HNC in multimedia where 3d Max was a major part of the course - enough that it was worthwhile buying 3d max 7 for her to use. So perhaps using her considerable knowledge of max we can generate something worthwhile (she worked through the gmax P-38 example without difficulty - even got rotating props - grrr).
So FSDS would not be worth the investment in time for me.

If you have access to Max 7, I'd use that in preference to Gmax.

Dave,
Yes fully paid/registered copy of Max 7 - upgraded from Max 4 while we still could. I will have to find out how to export for FS2004 though.

You need the Pandasoft direct X exporter then load the resulting X file directly into makemdl.
One problem, the latest version of the exporter contains a bug (as far as FS is concerned) so you need an earlier version. Have a look
here. There is a link about halfway down the page for the correct version (4.6.0.55)
If you then look
here there is some info about how to set it up correctly. The version shown is for Max 8, but I think the vast majority of the settings are the same.

Dave,
Thanks for that - I'll be running out of excuses to have a play with Max. Except the lack of time.

IF you're modelling for FS9, then you'd need the Pandasoft exporter. If you're modelling for FS-X, then you already have the converters, etc. in the FS-X SDKs.
