Interesting. I know the US Department of Defense services have several ensigns for different issues, but I don't know of any US ensigns other than the national flag. Interesting to see that the UK has several specialized ensigns.
Lots of good info on that site too.

I was quite commonly used at one time and appears on several of my paints
It was on the fuse of the later Cambrian livery worn by the Viscounts and also the Daks.
It was prominent on the fins of the BUA(CI) Heralds and is wht's on the tail of the Board of Trade/CAA HS.748 in the early, red livery.

Yep, I used to use that Ensign in my signature on another forum a few years ago and I was thinking of changing my Avatar here to that. On a slightly more bizarre note, after a lifetime in civil aviation, I was going to enquire if I was entitled to have it over my coffin (when the time comes

) in the same way anyone who's served in the armed forces can have theirs draped with the Union Flag.

Forward thinking as always Pete
A bit morbid I know but I think that would be very appropriate

Thanks, Dave. I sincerely hope it won't be for a while yet - but it's always wise to be prepared!

The question of this ensign came up several forum ago, when someone questioned its appearance on a UK reg aircraft.
Checking Google, I was able to supply the info as contained above (i.e. the correct ensign to be displayed by UK registerd aircraft).
Cheers
