VC10's (again!)

Does anyone have an inkling as to what might happen to the VC10's when the RAF retire them in 2011?
I recently visited Cosford and to my dismay the 707 they had there had been scrapped by good old BA. They of course could do exactly the same with VC10 they have there also. Before long they'll all be gone!

Hi Paul
Not just the Boeing 707 (I think therre are only 2 -420 now and one of those is very derekict)
The Cosford Trident has been scrapped also and most of the VC 10
The Viscount and One-Eleven have been moved
As to the VC 10 when the RAF retires them it is an unknown quantitiy so early on but there will be pressure to preserve if possible.

Yup.. I'd like to think that somewhere like Cosford would take a C1K/K3/K4 on as they're military. You never know though with Cosford :roll:

Keeping one in live condition at Brunters also can't be ruled out. But sadly NOT Airworthy.

Latest pictures from today at Cosford from Neil (TridentMan) show the VC10 fuselage cut in two. :sad:
I have some more positive news about something else related, but we'll no doubt make an announcement on that in due course

It's funny that you bring up the subject of the Vc10 at cosford, I was there when it landed. A close run thing, taxied in with branches from the approach end trees stuck to the wings!!!!!!!!!!

Now to make myself unpopular ....
the reason for the removal of the BA "fleet" at Cosford is down to BA, not the museum. Basically, the museum pointed out that BA need to either maintain the aircraft (which includes funding) or remove them. In their current financial position, anything other than disposal would have been irresponsible for any company with a £2bn hole in their pension fund....so BA took the right decision .....
.... tin hat on.....
Re the RAF fleet, I know someone who'd give a cockpit (or better still, sim) a good home when it finally reaches that sad but inevitable day!

As to the last comment.. of course, it's lamentable to fund a collection of 'retired' aircraft when you have a £2bn hole in your pension fund but moreso, is it not a greater criminal act to have a £2bn hole in your pension fund!! :tuttut:
The queue is far too long for you to end up with a VC10 sim Steve but it does no harm to dream
