Installing the Trislander....................

...................is a right pain in the backside!

Marcel has some fancy .exe app which combined with a config setting file works magic and updates the aircraft.cfg very nicely for you.........not!
I've struggled with this for the last day trying to get the Trislander paints working and have eventually succeeded by cut/paste of paint files and manual instal/update of .cfg

I think from what I remember folk had some issues with the VC not displaying correctly etc etc which is what I was finding. Also when using the .exe file, after a couple of paints were added the textures kept getting muddled around somehow or not displaying at all.

I found if you instal the main aircraft (G-XTOR) and then copy that texture folder as a basis for installing the rest of the paints that you want. There is one main texture file (bn23_t) which is the important texture to copy from each of your repaint downloads into your newly created 'master' texture file. The enclosed readme's with the cfg edits are also a bit poorly created and need some careful doctoring to get all your repaints in one UI category for choosing your aircraft. The good news is that now, I have all the paints displaying correctly and all the aicraft have a 2d and 3d panel which work

The Islander doesn't seem to have the same problems once you've sussed which model aircraft folder to stick it into. If anyone needs help installing the Trislander or even the Islander for that matter then give me a shout.

Hi John,

Indeed.. the Trislander is just about the biggest pig-of-an-aircraft I've had the pleasure of dealing with. However, I've had no problem with that particular file (bn2_t) as it has appeared in each of the 4 textures I have
One particular livery (G-BEDP) can be found in two versions.. v1 had the reg painted wrong - G-BDEP - and v2 corrects this. That said, the texture file with the corrected paint is still called texture.GBDEP, an easy thing to miss, so you will not get that livery displaying unless you rename the folder texture.GBEDP.

I think it's pretty safe to say that all of us who have had the pleasure of installing this very odd model have all done it in a slightly different way and the shock comes when you finally get to fly it and it fly's as odd as it looks!! It makes a change anyway

Btw.. I've taken all four CI based aircraft up so they're all waiting with gas in the tanks. Don't be too shocked when you see there's not a great deal in there.. it doesn't really need a great deal. I've been running it at 80% throttle/24in and this gives around 138kgh and 132kias. Examples of block fuels.. Jer-Soton 112.7nm/117kg.. Jer-Armour 52.6nm/59kg

Hi Garry,

Yep thats the problem with adding the repaints sometimes. You should have G-XTOR (base a/c) with a full working VC in which case you can clone it's texture, rename it to the new repaint texture and drop in the main texture file bn23_t that comes with your new repaint. Do a manual edit to the cfg file as I found that the .exe that alters the cfg file was somehow messing things up as well - I got a prototype Spitfire displaying as a Trislander at one point! Go figure that one out

I do have one odd thing happens with the repaints and that is if in outside view looking at the a/c, if you hit the alt key to change something in the menus, the a/c textures go blurry. If you then cycle the views through until you get back to outside view they become clear again. There are just a couple of paints that don't cause this to happen but the majority do.

I've also lowered the eyepoint a bit as me 'ead was rubbing the roof of the a/c

Hi John

I have them set up as AI and they alway come up blurry and recylcing or waiting clears it. I thinl they've been saved with mips.

I'll try out the manual stuff sometime..thank

Do you get walls instead of pax in the Trislander only?

Hi Garry,

Check how many texture files you have in the texture folders. G-XTOR which is the 'master' texture file has 17. I suspect you may be missing a few.

John,

Looks like it is the bn2_c.bmp file that is critical for the VC. The one dated 02/July/2004 does not have gauges on it. THe one dated 03/March/2003 does have the phantom gauges painted on it.

That should sort that one out!
