New aircraft types on fleet

Just a quick 'heads up'. You may have noticed some additions on the fleet page :-

Airspeed Ambassador
Vickers Viking
Britten-Norman Trislander

These will be joined shortly by Shorts Skyliner and Britten-Norman Islander. Routes for all these new aircraft are still being researched and will start to appear in due course.

I have give some Islander Trislander gen to DB ahead of the aquisition.....rather than on thread in case you didn't go further with it

Viking I posted a while ago

Lizzie is a problem

I can certainly find more Viking.......there are currently a lot Northolt based.

I can squeeze a few more Brit routes out of the BN

Lizzie :dunno:

Hopefully someone else will come up with something but if not come back to me and I will aee what I can do.

Hi Garry,

We have a handful of Lizzie routes (sadly we can't make them pay as they should given the era of operation) but as always, anything and everything you can find is always the greatest of help :wink: I can't pull off the top of my head who the major Viking operators were but certainly RAS, BEA and the likes of Don Everall (a lot of overlap between RAS and BEA expected) and I seem to remember your list going as far as B!! :lol:

I'd really like someone to produce an FD for the Islander I could get on with so I'll be leaving that for a while. Trislander is looking good though.. it's SO odd it HAS to be flown :lol:

Does anyone out there have accurate burn figures for the Big Bristols fitted to the Lizzie?? The German model seems a little too thirsty and is requiring 'sardine class' to make it viable :roll: I don't think it will make a loss but the current ticket structure means it needs a little help in other areas :wink:

Major Viking users of course BEA

There were no other EXTENSIVE fleets but the small fleets were worked very hard. Eagle had quite a few over a peiod of time, but most were small fleet with additions replacing crashed or worn out aircraft,

Autair, BKS, Tradair, Channel, Eagle/Cunard Eagle, RAF VIP transports, Hunting Clan, Airwaork spring to mind

If you want I can knock up the rest of the Viking routes, that is post BEA.

As for Lizzies the London -Paris le Bourget service should pay, The Lizzies were always Heathrow based. On the Paris run they held their own in direct competition with Air France V.708 Viscounts. BEA only put Viscounts on the Paris when the 801 was introduced.

They did do LHR Jersey which should pay I would have thought.

Problem with the Lizzie is that it made gallons of dosh on the regular LHR - Le Bourget run being all first class. Few pax paid heavily for the privilege of what can only be described as the highest levels of comfort and service (BEA Silver Wing - 1pm to 2.20pm daily with another aircraft doing the opposite run 12.30 to 1.50 daily at a return price of £15.19.0d) whereas the Viscount's piled more in for a lot less. We can't change the price structure to reflect the higher level of comfort so a single fare will have to be the same as would be charged on a Viscount/Vanguard :sad: The only way around this is to keep the route but increase the pax payload to the upper level. Surprisingly, the Viking on the same route does rather well due in part to it's better fuel economy. A nice little run in either aircraft and one that I expect to be flying with some regularity :wink:

Dan Air did Gatwick Jeresey..it was a JEY-GAT by 'ZO that was the last ever

Autair used them Luton Jersey

BKS also used them tp Newcastle and Leeds

Autair Luton-Teeside

At least with your list alone that should get things going and a lot of tham can keep away from Hrathrow for those that don't like flying at 8fps :sad:

Problem here is I don't have actual Liziie referece as such, only when it gets caught up in another type history or mention in airline histories. :smile:

Autair bought the 748 to do the IT although they did still end up on services....leaving the Herald to do the shedules (and they still did IT).

Both types were introduced to support snd replace Lizzies.....rather than airline expansion. There was expansion, but only in the vein of their current operation, not a whole new market. So they would have been used on the main ex Luton holiday destinations previous to that. They also appeared at Gatwick as well. They did healing runs with the Herald for sure down to Lourdes so the Lizzies probably did before them, that's ex Luton but they wouldn't have restricted them to there.

Dan Air's also were used on the holiday routes where the Comets would later reign suprememe.........again no details.

But in lieu of actual services information there are some safe bets you could introduce.

As long as the routes are belivable....that is leave out places like GUR & SOU that didn't get them.

I'll keep an eye open still :smile:
