Southport Airshow today (56k Warning)

Hi all,

Just returned from Southport Airshow, which was plagued with unsettled weather and cancelled Aircraft. Sadly no Battle of Britain memorial today due to weather restrictions and no Canberra either. She had to turn back having suffered technical problems en route to the venue.

The weather was so unpredictable today. You can see from the photo's how much it changed over four hours!

Here's some of the nicer shots. I apologise in advance about photo qualities, as I'm no photographer and trying to capture fast moving aircraft is pretty tough for me.

Seeing the Sea Vixen was an unexpected but very welcome treat for the soaked crowds. :yipeee:

All in all a great day out.

What was the problem at Duxford, Dave ? Wind ?

EDIT: By the way, I mean meteorological wind, not physiological.

We were supposed to have the bbmf do a flypast with the lanc at 15.20, it must be pretty bad because usually they keep us informed all day and won't cancel until the last minute, today it was a very definate NO at about 10.30! as it happened we had reasonable but gusty weather most of the day then at the time they were due to turn up it pissed it down!

Most people were dissapointed but everyone would rather see them grounded and kept safe and see them another time, rather than taking any unnecessary risks to crew and aircraft.

The hunter literally blew me away. What a fine machine. Very very beautiful for such an old girl.

Four utterly-Butterlys? (Not a 'Photoshop' trick, I take it!)

FOUR IS unusual

Yup.. wind was the prob today. At around the 13:00 mark.. gusts of up to 50mph were being recorded so that wrote off a large part of the days display. Things DID get better as the day wore on but regardless.. for a MAIN Duxford show (which the Sept one IS).. this was disappointing. Bang on a price tag of £28per head and something a little out of the ordinary is expected.. not 8 Spitfires  Duxford seem able to drum up a 'Spitfire' anniversary for just about every display these days and it's becoming a little tiresome (today was the 70th of the prototypes first flight!!).
Highlights.. two passes by F15's.. Chinook (always a competent display).. F86a (love this jet). Hawk (very ordinary display).. Tornado (probably the most uninspiring display I've seen off a GR4).. Tucano (HC probably knows the pilot but to be honest, I didn't watch most of it).. Perhaps I was just in a bad mood anyway

Aye, was there also on Sunday and yep, four Utterly Butterlys. Strangly enough one had its cowling missing??
