One of our members has asked me how to allow a program to access the net when using Norton Firewall.
As I haven't used this sh!tty software for a long time, I can't remember.

Anyone unfortunate enough to still be using it that can enlighten me?

open zonealarm,select progame control page/prorames.
if you left click on the access/server,you can then select allow,block or ask.
this prog came with ntl,and i dont think much of it either.

Cheers mate but I was after instructions for Norton.

righto...it's complex:

- double click the firewall in the systray in the bottom right.
- click firewall then configure on the right.
- click the programs tab to give a list.
- suit to taste

method 2...too irritating to remember. it's about finding programs and stuff and..meh.

I still use it here, & have been since 2001 & Not had a single problem with it.

I must say one thing though..... Your constant negative attitude towards Norton or in fact anything You don't use or Like, really does look bad.

As a Moderator, should You not be a little more neutral :think:

That's a very good point Dyl..but..

Each and every Moderator on this forum has different attitudes and life experiences..the Moderator's mission is to maintain the good order of the Forum and at the same time try to offer advice in their own fields of expertise..personally I've used McAfee for years with no problems whatsoever, and no doubt CB will take issue with that...but I will still listen to what he has to say.

Mod or not, at the end of the day I refuse to recommend a product to anyone on here that has been proven to be of a poor standard.

Nope, it's because they pay those companies a lot of money to promote their products.

With regards to my opinions on other hardware & software, I normally don't use certain things because there is something better available. I've been 'into' I.T for 9 years now and I'd like to think I've learnt enough to know whats good and what isn't.

Thats fair enough CB, I'm not questioning Your IT experience at all.

When You read stuff like I have with regards to Norton, which to me personally has given a fair few years of good service, it does tend to show as being negative. I appreciate what Del P also had to say. I do keep a keen eye on this section as it is a good font of information, & I will always listen to those who have superior knowledge to me with regards to Hardware etc.
