Classic British Flight Sim

Sorry if this is a repeat thread but I didn't have the time to read through 50 pages of posts - lol

I'm having REAL problems with the Hawker engines - starts fine - I follow the checklist - all showing "green" - so far so good - I takeoff...

NEVER fails - 10 minutes into my flight I lose both engines - first the Port then Starboard. I Relight, they start - but won't stay running.

I reload the aircraft in flightsim - take EXTRA care to follow the checklist - SAME thing happens.

What am I missing?

I LOVE this airplane but would really like to get farther than 30 miles from the airport - PLEASE HELP!

Hi Deryl and welcome to the forum

This is quite a common problem we've seen and one that was reported (again) not that long ago.

It sounds very much like you are running the engines at MAX (takeoff) RPM for too long. Takeoff power is rated for a max of 5mins so 10mins sounds about right before self destruction!!

As soon as you've taken off and are clean (look for around 140kias) decrease RPM to 14200 for climb and cruise. Try it and get back to us

Also the fuel trimmers are important - once you have reduced to climb power, use the fuel trimmers to keep the temperatures within permissible limits

beware also of intake ice - use the nacelle heaters

Thanks for the replies Guy's - I do both of the items you suggested already. As soon as I takeoff and reach a couple hundred feet AGL - I pull the power back to 14200 or a little under. I also set the fuel trimmers to the airport before takeoff - and keep trimming to stay below 755 in climb and 730 in cruise - IF I MAKE IT TO ALT BEFORE THE ENGINES CRAP OUT - LOL

I Thinking it's an electrical problem - but I have the Alternators/Generators/Invertors all started and running - so I have NO idea what I'm doing wrong.

All I'm sure of is that I'm getting more than a little frustrated with this aircraft.

Note the OAT the next time it happens. The engines can only fail under one or more of four conditions induced by the panel; excessive RPM, excessive TGT, insufficient ice protection, fuel filter blockage due to failure to use filter heat.

I will try the "ice protection/filter heat" suggestion - where exactly are those located on the panel and during what phases of flight do I use them?

The fuel heaters are in the window with the other fuel bits (the DOWN arrow icon) and are the two switches on the third section down. I always fly with these on mate as part of my PFC's Off the top of my head, I think the premiss is if you expect the temp to go below +5, then turn em on (and that's just about always in the UK)

This is all in the manual; OAT ,< 10'C' Power Unit De-Icers on Fast; <-6'C on Slow, OAT < -20'c or conditions of high humidity; Filter heaters on.

OK- Thanks Guy's - I think this has worked!

I turned the Engine Heater's on but not the Fuel Filter Heaters.

AFTER I relight and got things stabilized, I turned them on and have been flying happily along for about 15 minutes so far - Hope that was the problem - IF I have another flameout, I'm prepared to pull my hair out - No REALLY - I mean it - LOL

As with any release, you expect the obvious probs to be hit by Joe Public pretty soon after and prepare for such things. For a zillion reasons, not everyone get's to see the model at the same time so I don't blame you for loosing touch with trying to keep up with all the support pages (although the answer was in there)

You are up and running and enjoying the 748 so we could ask for no more
