I've lost serial number for MS Office

I've just upgraded my MS Office from 97 to a newer version, but when I came to uninstall the old version I was asked to enter the 25 number serial number but I seem to have lost it. Is there any way that I can uninstall the old version without the serial number?

Thanks Charlie, gave that a go but it only seems to pick up the current office version and not the old one. Bugger how do I get rid of it! :crying:

Try using the free download from http://www.belarc.com it creates an html report of your PC including installed software serial numbers.

EDIT: Fixed Link, sorry about that

When I went into add/remove programs and clicked on the uninstall office 2000, I got a message saying that I had to enter in the 25 number produck key. The same thing happens if I put the discs in and try to uninstall from them.

When you install a program it will leave a "key" in your registry which displays your serial number.

It should be a simple case of finding this registry key and copying down the number.

Howeve, if you have no experience of dealing with your registry, then dont touch it at all....

I will post a "How-to" when I get back from work in about and hours time!!!

Although, like Toby, ive never been asked for a serial number on an uninstall.

The link above is quoted slightly wrong. Should be http://www.belarc.com (without the comma at the end).

It's not a bad program, we use it at work on occasions can save taking the lid off the PC but very very occasionally it gets some aspects of the PC architecture wrong. Not known it to fail with keys etc though.
