I'm the same - Gamespot shgamespot!

I don't know what all the fuss is about - all whipped up by some adolescents on the 'other' forums ie 'man this is awesome can't wait to get my new rig etc etc' and squabbling with each other because someone hasn't got the right card or whatever ... deary me.

I simply went to bed at a reasonable hour and went here this morning:

http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsi ... loads.html

... downloaded it in about an hour, installed on my dual boot Mac Mini with no fuss, had a bit of a play with the Baron and it seemed to run ok at 24fps (except when I bumped all the sliders up and got 2fps!)

Doesn't look that much different from FS9 to be honest, although I will probably buy it ...

To misquote in a Classic British style: My Two Old Pennies Worth!

I've just d/l'd the trial demo. It came down in about 15mins.

All I can say is, the demo stutters..............textures are slow to load..........and the AI cars travel at about 150mph.

It may be my PC.............but I doubt it.

Hi Steve

My PC runs FS9 with everything maxed out at about 30 to 40 fps.

FSX demo is an average of 8 fps jerky jerky. (set to medium).

Ai cars are at least 100mph everywhere.(most cars just chassis!).

Flashing beacon flashes the shadows on the aircraft too which looks poo.

My Video card is DX9 compatible too.

Autogen trees are still 4 times bigger than they should be.

No 2d panels that i can see.

Goldfish bowl spot view or too close.

when you get to 50 ft when landing on water the water switches it's self to
much shinyer version with horrible switch point. (no blend at all).

Elevator sensitivity about 5 times more than FS9. (only elevator)

Not impressed, very dissapointed.

Yes it will look great if you have the hardware that can run it smoothly.

My 3.0 ghz P4 with 2 gb ram and ATI X800pro can't but runs FS9 perfectly with all sliders maxed.

Looks great but pointless if i have to turn everything down to look worse than FS9 to get it to run.

Aircraft directory now calle "Airplanes" bloody "Yankisms" are not PC

Still max tex size of 1024 x 1024!
(all other games are at least 2048x2048)

& finally the only thing i do like is DDS textures at last

Regards
Rick

Seems to be going in the direction of arcade games. I home it doesn't end up like CFS3......................

Is that DDS textures in addition to, or in place of, the current texture format?

Hi Steve

Spot view in FSX to me looks just like CFS3 goldfish bowl.

Just looked and they have pared down the air files at last which will help me but the models are silly massive.

each mdl file is about 12mb each which explains the slideshow.

My 748 is about 2.7 mb mdl file wise (slightly less than the CS C130)

seeing as they are using Bump maps too i fail to see where all the ploys have come from unless the dynamic shadows on the aircraft mean there is yet another unseen model in there just for that.

Rfactor etc use one single model for the exterior including the shadows.
I fail to see why M$ has gone silly on a very old format game engine.

:dunno:

Rick
