Advice on making a FS video.

Seeing Toby's nice video of the Tupolev the other day reminded me that I still don't know how to do it

Well, I know how to record a video in FS but not how to edit or share it. Is it possible to convert it to .wmv and edit it in Windows MovieMaker? Or is it a lot more complicated than that? Do I need some fancy software?

Don't worry - I'm not about to subject you all to hours of my creations, I want to demonstrate FS to some people who haven't got it!

Hi Ian,

Yup WMM (Version 2, which comes with XP SP2 or is downloadable separately) is the way to do it. Basically you import your AVI clips, edit/cut them as necessary and drop them onto the timeline bar down the bottom. You can then add transitions like fade throughs between them effects like ageing, slow-mo or B&W onto them and record narration or add a soundtrack if you like.

Then you save your project, save your movie file and choose an appropriate format.

Hope that helps

Thanks for your quick response, Toby. I'm still stuck over the fact that the FS video is saved as a .FSR file which isn't recognised by anything other than FS. Do I have to convert it to .avi somehow?

Ah, I think youve got videos confused with videos. I've never tried (since FS 98) but your FSR file will mostly likely be a recording of your aircraft's parameters such that the sim could reproduce your flight rather than a visual video. You need to download Fraps or something similar to record DirectX screen output.

More help, please!
