Very sad, did a lot for Yorkshire and cricket, though have to say that the respect that I had for him when I used to watch him play at the Trente Bridge ground when I lived in Nottingham as a youngster went on one particular day.
I was about 13 or 14 at the time when, with a friend and watching Yorkshire play I went over to Freddie Trueman who was at the time speaking to two females and very politely asked if I could have his autograph his two worded reply was...........F*ck off!!! I didn't dare tell my father about it as he was a very hard business man and would have left Trueman feeling like he had been struck by one of his famous bowls.........but not physically.
I am sorry, but after that I had no respect for him as a person but my respect for him as a sportsman still holds high.
