Where is this? Certainly an unusual viewpoint. Usually houses close to airports are owned by people who hate aircraft and aircraft noise

And so far you are both right. But they were times people living in the houses would have said that all the noise would be a small price to pay for freedom. Now that has changed a couple of years ago.

Yep. Berlin Tempelhof Central Airport or TCA at that time. I have clear childhood memories of planes rushing noisily and unexpected over my head giving me moments of panic when my mom and me came close to the airport on a shopping trips. Today you see a lot of bussiness aviation including the odd Boeing BBJ, two or three daily flights to Brussels (BAe 146) and Cologne (Fokker 100). And as long as the new Berlin International Airport (an extension to EDDB) isnt finished it will stay open.

Pan Am based some there to operate German internal services.

BEA had One-Elevens without the flying Jack just Super One-Eleven on the tail base there for a while. (BEA Super One-Eleven Division)
