Classic British Flight Sim

Hi Guys,

I was chatting with Dave Balmer a couple of nights ago regarding flight plans etc. I mentioned that one of the eventual 'nice-to-haves' would be a zip file to be made available with .fsn plans for our routes by aircraft type. Well, no sooner had the words left my keyboard when Dave volunteered to make the Comet flightplans.

Once compiled each aircraft type's flightplans would be zipped and made available to all other pilots. The format for saving is ICAO aircraft code followed by route ICAO codes. When unzipped and moved to the the 'plan' folder in FS9 they would autosort themselves amongst any other .fsn plans you have. So for example a Comet flight from Heathrow to Edinburgh will be saved as COMT EGLL EGPH. This way all aircraft types would be grouped together.

For routings, I suggest to make things simple, route from airport direct to a first VOR and then ending with a last VOR direct to airport. To include SID/STARS would make too many plans to cover all permutations.

Please post below if you want to take onboard any particular aircraft type. If any of you want to get together as a 'team' to do a particular aircraft type then no problem. Please post below if you are willing/able to help.

How about including the route number as well?:

Does anyone have the performance specs for all of our aircraft for FSBuild or FSNav?

Eh, do you want that implemented as well? I just thought of generating the routes ....

spec's for DC3 very simple, speed 137knts, ceiling 7000ft approx, climb/decent 500ft . landing speed 90knts

I had originally thought of including flight number but it's a cleaner solution just to have DEP and ARR codes. Some routes also are duplicated with different flight numbers plus the route will always stay the same but the flight number could be changed.

Regarding the aircraft data for calculating the EOC/TOD/fuel burns etc and flight times. These would be handy and I'm assuming you all have your own 'figures'. I tend to pick an aircraft type close to performance of the aircraft I'm using and tweak a bit as required. I'll start another thread asking what data you use for your favourite aircraft/s and again, we can come up with a small download to pop into the appropriate place in the FSNav folder in FS9.

John, regarding your mention about making the FPs Direct to the SID end and then from the STAR beginning direct to the Airport, that's how the flightplan "route" field actually looks in most of Europe (and much of the US now that RNAV procedures are becoming commonplace), so putting that in would be fairly standard as that allows for you to add in whatever procedure is appropriate when you're preparing for departure and then readying for descent. That's one of the nice things about FSNAV in that it inserts SIDs and STARs where they go and not at the end of the current flightplan.

I do suggest that everyone check the UK AIS site and other resources for the "preferred" routes though because for those who fly online, you'll most likely get re-routed if you're not filed for the "preferred" or "standard" route for that flight.
