Just found out a way to help cure them dreaded stutters you get when flying FS9.

CLICK ON START AND THEN RUN. TYPE IN "DXDIAG". LOOK FOR THE SOUND PAGES, THEN NOTE POSITION OF SLIDER FOR SOUND ACCELERATION. MOVE IT FROM HIGH TO BASIC.

I changed all three pages of my sound pages bringing the sliders to basic and have been impressed by the improvement.

Might even help you Jetset!!

Tips and Tricks link below, some are repeated from previous posts, anotherTip worth a try is:

Improve the appearance of detailed Mesh:
Find and edit this line in fs9.cfg (default for this is 19):
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21
This will allow FS2004 to draw detailed Mesh more accurately

That fix is only for sound stutters.

Just about to try a few of the other tips though.

Nigel,

Thanks for the sound tip: I'll try that.

As for the second one, be aware that it will have the opposite effect to the first: it will slow things down if a high-resolution mesh is loaded for the area in which you're flying, because you are computing more mesh points for the same area. It's useful, though if the scenery requires it (cablecar stations in the Alps, for example; in fact most things in the Alps will benefit!).

It won't, however, benefit you unless you have a high-res mesh installed.

Cheers,

Kevin

I was able to cure my sound stutters by updating my sound card driver

Don't seem to suffer from sound stutters, just verbal stutters when I get excited!

It can in some cases actually fix video stutters as well, esp if the sound card or on board sound is bogging down the CPU.

Best
