Those kind of abnormalities will be eliminated if us use the SRTM mesh from simviation, or even if you use some of the many localised meshes out there.....still it could be a basis for some interesting flights...especially at night ;-)

Are you just using the default scenery or do you have any add on installed.

I have a home made SRTM mesh and occastionally I find some very strange things in it.
