Classic British Flight Sim

...I'm bamboozled... I want to be able to copy my old VHS tapes onto DVD, so I need some sort of TV in or video capture device and a DVD writer, but do I want a DVD±RW (±R DL) drive, a DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM drive,
a DVD±RW (+R double layer) drive, DVD±RW drive, DVD+RW drive, DVD±RW / DVD-RAM drive, DVD±RW (+R double layer) / DVD-RAM drive, DVD±R drive or maybe a DVD-RW drive? :think:

Perhaps some of these are only available to 'brand new customers only'?

I think you've got yourself confused mate. Most drives these days support most if not all of the above standards.

Benq drives get some good reviews and I have one myself. The latest Benq DVD writer is the DW1650 @ £27 from OcUK or the Benq DW1655 Lightscribe drive @ £36 also from OcUK.

As for the VHS -> DVD side, this looks pretty good esp the divx feature.

Benq.. what are their tft's like?? I am in the market for a 15" and the BenQ's are coming in at a reasonable price. Not after cutting edge.. just something to throw FSNav onto

You would need
a dvd writer (dual layer)
a video or tv tuner capture device ( there are usb and cards to choose from)
video recording software (usually comes with device but will
probably be a "limited edition" version)
a file converter
many many hours
and some asprin for the headaches
or you could buy a standalone model so all you'll have to do is put the video cassette and a blank DVD in the machine
que the tape and press a button
pro and cons to both I guess My option was to do it in a pc

Not sure to be honest Dave. I only ever read up on TFT's when I'm building someone a PC and I haven't done one for a while.
Going on price/spec a 15" Benq can be had for £111 but Microdirect have a 17" AG Neovo for £115. I have used one of those and it was pretty good.

The AG neovo's 19's are excellent, so I can only assume the 15's are good too.

I've got a AG Neovo 17" TFT, which is easily as good as my 17" Sony one. Stand is a bit wobbly though.

I was only really after something reasonably cheap and cheerful and as you will know Ben, I don't have a great deal of space in the toyroom. I suppose I could have a look at a 17" mind you. For that sort of money, it would be rude not to

A 17" flatscreen really doesnt take up that much space at all, thats what i am using now. And of course, being a flat panel, you can mount it or stand in spaces where you couldnt accommodate a CRT of the same screen size.
