I remember watching this aircraft at Farnborough in the 1950s and have always been interested in the role and work of both US & RN Escort Carriers in the Atlantic, Med. & Pacific.

I spent Friday evening modifying the acft cfg to make it more closely resemble the real aircraft. I also introduced fixed leading edge slats to the Fs acft.cfg and these seem to work, at least all my mods have reduced the stalling and cruising speeds to more realistic values.

I have set the fixed leading edge slats at 20% span and the equivalent of 2* of extension by modern moving leading edge flaps. This could be incorrect because I just guessed at the extension value. What was done with the real aircraft was to produce a fixed leading edge slot by 'sticking a fixed bit on the front' for about one fifth of the span. Help would be appreciated.

If anyone is interested I should be quite willing to share my modified aircraft file in its present state.

This aircraft was to have served with the RNVR from 1954+ and with hand folded wings with the RAF - possibly to be flown by National Service Pilots in Coastal Command. I believe that all Seamews were scrapped in 1964. I think that the rapid development of the helicopter from that time on and the fact that Shorts test pilot killed himself and his crew (attempting a slow roll over the Shorts airfield?) probably finished the project. Its place was taken by Avenger Teams (Hunter + Killer) in RN and USN and by the more trustworthy, two Mambas instead of one, Gannet for the FAA. Perhaps Neptunes entered RAF service at about that time(?)

Great fun to modify the files of such an ugly duckling!! Needs a new panel, at present it is impossible to navigate out of sight of land or in IFR conditions. I shall fix that later on. The present FS9 acft also needs a proper turbo prop engine.

I've downloaded and flown the Seamew as well as Ito San's Balliol, how would one go about adjusting the config to stop them behaving like Patti Wagstaff's Extra?

The old Seamew.....when I was sent this a few weeks ago, I had got it mixed up with something else. Havent flown it that much, as cant find a carrier big enough from which I can take off successfully!!

Two notches of flap, bags of up elevator trim, full throttle, hang on to the brakes, let go and close your eyes and hope for the best. Being an Ito San product you'll get up, be careful of the roll rate though. She'll snap a 360 roll no matter what attitude.
