When the Future is the Past

When the future's the past.
When I was 10 years old, there were men on the moon.
When I was 10 years old, you didn't need a 'G' suite to fly at twice the speed of sound.
When I was 10 years old, you could fly across the channel on a cushion of air...with your car if you so desired.
When I was 10 years old, anyones car could be driven inside a plane and then flown across the channel.
When I was 10 years old, we were building the only Vstol jet in the world.
When I was 10 years old, we'd built and tested a train powered by a linear induction motor
Will someone tell me WTF happened?

Ps prompted by the oo-ahs! of a Big aeroplane landing at Heathrow... I think that first happened when I was... let's see 10 years old

I get the impression that many perhaps are not too keen on the A380 and its progress in the aviation industry.
I, like many on here, am completely bonkers over Aircraft in general and personally think its a wonderful achievement in technology reaching a new milestone in next generation flying.
Granted the thing is not (all) British and its not Classic...yet. I too miss the days of the 1-11's, Viscounts, Tridents (I could go on). But unfortunately these days are gone. The memories however, live on.
If I could choose which aircraft I would rather see flying in our skies in the future it would of course be something Classic & British.
I just think some folks are overseeing a very important part of aviation advancement being born right before us.
Like Garry says,
Progress!

Hey don't get me wrong Vegas, if it's got wings it interests me and having watched 'The making of the A380' at least twice' I admire those who have the intelligence, skill and passion to put it into the sky.
The question I was trying to raise was where have all those 'real breakthroughs gone?' Anything that moves aviation on, A380 included, is most welcome. But I suppose I miss, that 'boys own' sense of 'daring do' that seemed to pervade the early seventies.
Oh me gawd! I sound old!

When was this? Both the Brits and Americans were flying with G-suits and Pressure suits for both experimental and operational flights as early as 1949.
