Vanguard Ground Handling

Just had a few questions about Ricks Vanguard

1) I've noticed that even with the throttle pulled back to idle, it will still start to roll, and pick up speed quite smartly. Is there a way of editing this without needing to use specialist software?

2) Ive also noticed it barely needs any trim to take off...in fact with about 2 degrees and full power, the climb is nearly vertical! :shock: :lol: Again, could I change this?

Of course, if that is actually how it was, I will be happy to adjust my fling to suit :smile: It just struck me as a bit odd when compared to the other Brit Classics

Hi Longhaul

I built it 4 years ago and only updated the fde to FS2002 then it all changed again for FS2004 and i don't have time to update them currently.

It was fine but the newer models are much more realistic visually and flight wise.

Regards
Rick :wink:

Ah, I didnt realise it was an FS2002 FDE! :doh:

I understand what you say about not upgrading, you must be incredibly busy working on the gems you have given us recently :wink:

No problem, now you've explained that, I can work out some ways round it :smile:

Thanks

Rich

Looks like you're going to be spending a bob or two on brake pads then Longhaul :lol: :lol:

Hi LH

With the Vanguard I select just the two inner engines and only make very small throtle adjustments and just pump the brakes now and then.

Hi Rich,

I found the same problem yesterday while practicing for the VA, I let her run down the taxiway at stansted with throttle closed and reached 47 knots. that will loose us some % if not very carefull.

Hi Chaps,

A lot of large FS turbo-props won't sit still (unbraked) on the ground, or are difficult to taxi, mainly because MS have never developed proper FDEs for large turbo-props and everything is really a jazzed up light aircraft.

There are a couple of tricks that may help:

In the aircraft.cfg under [propeller] change
beta_min= 12.0
to
beta_min= 1

That's usually the best fix, but it may be worth checking the calibration of the joystick as some throttle settings don't actually go down to zero! A registered version of FSUIPC will let you force this setting, but I suspect the crippled "free" version won't.

Hope this helps. Meanwhile, I shall continue praying that Flight Simulator will one day recognise the existance of such aircraft. I know people like Rick and other developers work very hard at getting them to perform as realistically as possible, but I long for the day when the simulator is as easy to taxi as I'm told the real thing is!
