A colleague brought in three CDs' of the Blenheim Story for me to watch, though I havn't yet played any of them I found this recollection written on the back of one of the cases to be very funny and thought I would share it.

In this tape the Earl of Bandons' name is mentioned. This charismatic character was in command of RAF West Raynham where Blenheims of 2 group were based.

Bandon was an extraordinary leader and liked by all who served with him.

This story occurred after the Dieppe Landings.

At the debriefing the Army, Navy and RAF were all represented. After giving his report an Admiral finished by saying. "I would like to thank the aircrews of the Cinderella Service for the excellent cover they gave throughout the whole operation."

A General representing the Army also offered his thanks to the Cinderella Service for their help.

When it was the Earl of Bandons' time to speak he started by saying. "I'd like to remind everybody here that Cinderella had two f**king ugly sisters".

The great 'Abandoned Earl' was in an 'officers only' bar in Singapore post war with the (mixed officer/NCO) aircrew who had been flying him around on a tour of inspection. This evening was his treat, so he was not impressed when a pongo officer came over and pointed out that 'other ranks' should not be using that particular establishment.

'Who the hell are you' says Paddy!

'I am Col the Hon Ponsenby-ssmyth and I suggest that you learn to speak to senior officers with more respect, I demand your name and Rank!'
I am Air Marshal The Earl of Bandon, which outranks you on both bloody counts, so p*ss off and leave us alone you little f*rt'
A real character!
