Hi Guys..... Looking for help again. I need basic help with an internet e-mail problem and I'm sure someone on the forum will be able to offer advice. Forgive my ignorance if this is very basic but we oldies struggle to keep up with all this technical stuff. I have a Broadband connection with Wanadoo and have had no problems. Recently two friends tried to send me messages with attached files of about 5 mb in size. Neither message was received and one friend received a reply saying my e-mail account could not accept large messages. I did'nt even realise there was a limit on the size of a message you could receive by e-mail. Is there anyway round this problem, and how can you find out the size of the file your e-mail system can receive ?. Any advice or comments would be much appreciated. Regards to all simmers.... Terry.

Hi Terry

My limit is 3 MB but I get away with 3.5 sometimes

In my case (Netscape) it can be upgraded to handle more but there is a monthly charge.

Most providers if not all have a limit on incoming and outgoing mail. Quickest way around it is to ask your friend to upload it to his webspace.

Terry,
In outlook express, go to Tools/options/receipt and there is a box "checked" to stop attatched files. You need to uncheck this box to allow the attatchments. Make sure your anti-virus checks any attats. though.

Thats not the problem, it's the mailbox limit that is.

Somewhere in the middle it syas:

"You can attach files up to 2MB in size to a total of 3MB, and six attachments in total"

You could get a Hotmail account, or something similar; my hotmail will cope with attachments of up to 10MB.
