The Introductions Thread

Hello all

Well, with the recent number of 'New Member' threads, i thought i would start an idea seen on another forum, called the introductions thread.

Each member (can be new, or old) posts a little about themselves, what they do, hobbies etc, much like a mini profile.

Lets see if the idea works, if thats okay with the Mod's. Maybe if it does work, it could become a 'sticky' with a "New members post here" kind of thing.

Just 1 rule though, no comments on other people, just an introduction about yourself. If you want more information about another, PM them. It just makes the thread easier to follow.

Any hew, about me...

My name is Fred, and im 17 years of age. First baught flightsim with version 9, on its release date (1st Aug 03), and it sparked a life changing obsession. Before that time, i had always wanted to get into automotive design, but FS introduced me to a new world, and almost all of my (free) time now gets dedicated to it. I know my way around the sim like the back of my hand, and there is not much regarding 3rd part add-ons and the base FS (what it does rather than how it does) that i cant awnser. Authough im not too polished in my actual Computer knowledge.

The time that is not spent in FS, is spent either at my home, in Winslow, Buckinghamshire (nr Milton Keynes) or at college in Amersham, where i study Media and Communications, as part of a Journalisim Package. Authough this seems like a far cry form my new life-ambition, of Commercial Pilot, it is something to fall back on, and also creates a new side-hobby of review/article writing. I have only written a few at the moment, which were published on http://www.mutleyshangar.com but i hope to write many more, not only for websites, but for magazines too.

I have been around here for a long time, and actually signed up before a few of the current Mod's did. My first post was a question about DM's 707, and after that i went quiet. But for a long time i just hovered, unaware that i was even registered. Soon after i came back, and im now pretty regular. The nickname 'mulletman' came from my secondary school, where i grew my hair, and it didnt go according to plan. Lets not say any more on that subject.

Anyway, lets see if this works, the post doesnt have to be as long as that, it could be, 'hi, i like FS' and that be that, but its an intro none the less.

Tell me about yourself,

Peace and Love,

Fred 'mulletman' Clark.

I'm Chris, 25 next month and I'm unfortunate enough to live in Luton.

Been into FS since 1998 when a mate lent me FS98 to see what it was like. I then got myself a nice new 56k modem from Comet for near on £60! I then downloaded as many good aircraft as I could. All the good ones were around 600kb each
Bought a few payware packs.... anyone remember VIP Ultimate Classic Wings in a black box ? 16 sided fuselage and 8 sided engines

Then went on to buy the stutter engine that was FS2000, FS2002 and FS2004, each one faithfully retaining it's stutter.
Never made anything for FS.... don't really have the time or interest in software. Hardware is more my thing.
Got into PC's in 1997 during my first job, then went into an I.T job and hated it !
Have worked at 4 airports and I've got a City & Guilds in Aeronautical Engineering.

Since 1997 I've worked at....

Luton (Aircraft Engineering)
Stansted (Passenger Services)
Gatwick (Overtime for the above)
London City (Airfield Ops)

Now I'm back at LTN airport working in Airline Ops. Not finding it very interesting as I'm missing the ramp so my next aim is to become a despatcher.

Got a healthy interest in aviation, not a spotter but I do take photos. Also enjoy flying on different aircraft types and I've done 13 flights this year already.

Also got an interest in the older woman at the min but maybe thats my age

My real name is Rich, I'm 22, and for my sins I'm a postgrad student at Lancaster University. My degree is Historical Research, but I actually specialise in the sociology of medicine.

I first got into FS with version 9, found CBFSim, and now a confirmed classics addict, whatever the nationality or time period.

I originally wanted to be anRAF fighter pilot (like my grandfather), but my eyesight is not up to it. It is also fractionally below the standars required to be a commercial pilot  The plan now isnt really set, but I am looking at jobs with the General Medical Council in Manchester or with Virgin Trains (not really a rail fan as such, although I travel a lot with work and relationship commitments, and have heard VT are a good bunch to work for).

When I'm not working or travelling, I play guitar (although I no longer have time for bands like I used to), read voraciously on any subject, and enjoy sampling any real ales that come to this part of the world! :drinkers:

My real name is Nick, I'm 18 and from Salisbury (down southish). I'm currently studying Aircraft Engineering (Airframe/Engines) at MoD (QinetiQ) Boscombe Down. I'm hopefully going to complete the course this time next year (after 4 years!!) and then finalise on either Rotary or Fixed wing aircraft.

I'm currently searching the internet and watching One Hit Wonders...

I'm a member of RAFvirtual.com (OC 1 Sqn) and a couple of FS related forums, including this one.

Have a long term girfriend and looking to get a Ford Focus soon (fingers crossed).

Looking to upgrade my computer soon, but the contest is between that and the above. I also have a passion for photography.

Well, thats me...Thanks.

Hi Guys & Gals

Formerly went by the screen name of XR219, but changed back to my real name earlier this year. Born in Belfast Benjamen Andrew Watson (Ben) I grew up over looking the Shorts factory at Sydenham. My father worked at 46 NI Workshops REME right beside the airfield so was no stranger to aircraft from i was little. That coupled with the fact the he (Dad) traveled to London and the South East a lot with work, many a Sunday afternoon was spent at Aldergrove seeing my Dad off for the week and watching all the aircraft.

I've lived in Edinburgh since I was 18, and although I love it, I would love to move "Down South" as the aviation scene is more substancial than it is up here. I work for Scottish & Newcastle heading up the group distributed server team which keeps me busy (very busy of late.)

One of these days I'll finish paying for a past relationship error and get some money. Then I'll buy a Mini (proper one - none of this BMW non sense) A Triumph Dolomite Sprint and an SD1 Rover, to go alongside my current steed, and the only woman in my life my 620ti. (I'm a bit of a BL fan) We can but dream.

Would give my eye teeth to work in aviation, so if anyone needs an IT manager for their aviation business I'm all yours!

Been involved with cbfsim for a few years now, and have met many of our usual guys at events up and down the country.

My favourite FS aircraft are VC10, Vanguard, Hunter, and BAe 146.

This year I will try NOT to spend a fortune upgrading my PC when FSX comes along.... aye right! :green:

Cheers,

Well my username is my real name, always has been on here. I'm 23 near-as-dammit (!) and have been flying in FS since FS98 came out in October 1997. I used to build aircraft for it back in FS98 days around 1999-2001 but gave up that when I went to University (Southampton) in 2001 to read Mechnical Engineering (BEng, Hons). After graduating from there with a 2-1 in 2004, I went on to the University of Sussex to take an MSc in Turbomachinery which I graduated from with distinction in 2005. I secured a job with Britten Norman in late 2005 as an airworthiness engineer (involving some flight testing) which I sadly had to let go just days before I was due to start, owing to a shoulder injury. Since then I have been doing some self-employed IT work and also temping for bank whilst seeking another permanent engineering job.

FS-wise I have been building scenery since the beginning of 2005, releasing Wisley, Hatfield, Southampton and the TEA buildings at Melsbroek, Belgium. Current FS projects include an all-new Hatfield (1993) with much greater attention to detail and full AI, Moreton-Valence, Brockworth and Brooklands.

Elsewhere in aviation, I am a member of the Trident Peservation Society and I run their website and forum, a website on the BAe 146 and my own photography website.

This is great idea Fred
My name is Joe. I am an electrician in the service industry. I love my work. I've always had a mind for tinkering. Fixed my moms (mums) electric can opener when I was 11. I received a nasty shock and well,
it kinda all started there. I have built a few airboats and rebuit many others. Flying (Hydroplaning) across the Everglades thru the sawgrass
has it's hiden dangers.
I'm learning to fly remote helicopters (Micro size) I'm doing so so with that
I'm still flying all original parts that came with the kit, although I have a few stress cracks from some hard landings. ( about 30 flights)
I served in the US Army as a mechanic (heavy wheel) was involved in the testing of the HUMVEE and ground support for the Apache helicopter.
Photography is a big passion and I have some very nice pictures of all sorts. I was chosen twice by a small local paper to photograph the Space Shuttle if any would like to see..
I love to sim of course and recently found this site after dl'ing DMs' awesome British Aircraft liverys ( big thank you Mr. Maltby).
I also thank all those who have helped me understand the site and it's purpose.
I'm very interested to learn about the others, so write in
(I would like to hear a bit about Mr. Maltby and where he got his start
in building areoplanes for this wonderful word of cyber flight.)

My name is Gavin,
I am 15 years old, I am from Edinburgh (born and bread here), and am currently in my fourth year at high school, I have always been into planes, as far back as i can remember. my grandfather flew B-25's and B-24's for RAF coastal command in the second world war he trained in canada on the tiger moth but also flew Oxfords in the UK as an instructor, he was based at ballykelly in Northern Ireland with the Liberator and later in the bahamaswith the mitchell(his favourite). When I was younger he would tell me his flying stories (they make quite an impression on a 6 year old boy!), thats what got me hooked. I have his logbook now as he recently passed away and said that i should have it it makes for fascinating reading. Anyway... I started my FS flying with FS2002, and have only recently upgraded to 2004 aswell as a new PC!
I have many favourite aircraft, one of which is the B-52 (hence my user name  ), most of my favourite aircraft, i can fly on the sim which i love!! I am a huge fan of the 757, but like all of us on this forum I have a soft spot for these classic brits. My favourite FS aircraft at the moment are: Kirk ollsons sabre (G-SABR, thanks andy! ) DG's T' series hunter (i have virtually all of his aircraft including all the hunters), I also enjoy flying many of Dave maltby's aircraft aswell. I have many other classic brits: jet provost, spitfire, chipmunk etc....(the list goes on), all of which are excellent models and i give a great deal of credit to all who make them.

I hope to get qualified as an airline pilot one i have left school etc...
and my goal is to fly 757's for monarch. (bit ambitious i know)

Thanks for reading!!!

Monarch won't have the 757's for much longer mate. The fleet is very old now and will probably be replaced with A321's. G-MONB has just under 78000 hours on on the clock.
Sorry to p!ss on your fire.
