Happy 250th To America!
The celebration in Washington DC was delayed do to a strong thunderstorm and safety concerns over lightning. The grounds were cleared but by 1030 the crowd began to return in the 10s of thousands.
Much or most all of the music and singing entertainment is performed by members of our military, in uniform.
Very refreshing. A nice change from popstars
It gives the sense of a home town community.

Hope everyone had an amazing experience. Its easy to forget how young the USA actually is!

Apparently the fireworks were something to behold.

Pah, 250 years old is barely out of diapers in terms of countries (and it shows at times)! Some European and Middle Eastern countries have been around for more than 6,000+ years but they don't feel the need to brag about it every year because they are dignified and don't have a me, me, me, attitude like America.

Seriously, I think you are confusing places where people have lived for many years with how long the current government has been continuously operating. The government of the United States has been functioning as a nation for 250 years and that is what we celebrate, but people have been living here for a lot longer than that. The original settlements were founded hundreds of years before that and they were extensions of the European nations that founded them. So seriously, how many countries can claim to have been continuously operating for 6000 years without being conquered or the government replaced in a revolution or overthrown in a civil war.

Not England, in 1066 the Normand's conquered it and brushed aside the Saxon kingdoms.
Not China, the Peoples republic of China was founded in 1949.
Not Turkey, it was built on the ruins of the Ottoman Empire in 1923.
Not France, The first French Republic was founded in 1792.
Not Germany, Germany was first unified and the German empire created in 1871.
Not Italy, Italy was unified in 1861.
Not Japan, Japan was unified between 1560 and 1603 concluding with the established the Tokugawa Shogunate.
Of course you could argue that the governments of France, Germany, Italy and Japan all date to 1945 when they were reconstructed after WW2.

i could go on and on, I think you would be hard pressed to find a government that has been operating continually for 6000+ years.

We ban political and religious posts for fear of upsetting folks. Maybe Ben's going to have to ban national pride too. In terms of continuous unconquered operators of countries, I think that the Australian Aborignals take the cake for their 60,000 years.

I just enjoyed the Aussies having a laugh.
