ICAO codes

Does anyone know who maintains ICAO codes in the UK and what the current rules are?

I was pretty sure small farm strips etc used to have a 2X** or EG## code (where the ## or ** was a number)?

I noticed in the new simulator EGVW had been allocated to Tillingham Airstrip, an unmarked field. I appreciate EGVW hasn't been used in years, but I didn't think it could be re- allocated to a field! I had a quick look on the internet and I cant find anything conclusive, but lots of the small fields dont seem to have any ICAO style codes anymore?

There used to be a website with a listing of all UK airfields and farm strips :agree:

But I can't remember where it is :wall:

I found a couple George, but it looks like they don’t allocate codes to the strips any more? That’s why I’m wondering if there was a change in the regulations. PeteP would probably know. It just irritates me that they’ve just gone through the spare major airfield codes and allocated them to any old field in the sim.

Morning, Ben,

Once upon a time I would or could probably have found out quickly but, having been retired for 14 years, I'm a bit out of touch with this sort of thing.

Sorry I can't help.
Pete

I don't believe the list is available on line, there is an Official ICAO document which lists them all world wide but it is expensive and although many airports keep a copy, it is rarely an up to date copy due to the cost (that and the fact that it is no longer a Mandatory document).

I will check how old ours is at work next week.

The 2X** / X3** type codes were fictional, based on Bones ( pseudonym) list of UK airfields, without any bearing in reality. This is the last link I had for the list, but might not work anymore --->

http://www.homepages.mcb.net/bones/UK_A ... gue/uk.htm

UK codes for smaller fields and strips start with EG and then a 2 digit number. For example EG22...

You can find the full list in something like Pooleys Flight Guide,

https://www.pooleys.com/shop/pooleys/po ... l-edition/

or here at Nats...in section Gen 2.4

Thanks Pete, I’ll have a nosy at that.

I think I’m going to have to go with XGNW as there doesn’t seem to be a way to recode the stock airports. I just think it was a stupid thing for them to go through all the unused main codes and re allocate them to any random piece of grass in the sim.

George, many thanks for the link, I had been after a complete list of smaller airfields to fly from or to. This will keep me happy for quite some time!!

Regards
Nigel.
