Sad to report that the last surviving Ace from the Battle of Britain has passed away aged 101.

He was awarded the DFM, doe that mean he was an NCO during the battle.

Yes, most likely a Sergeant Pilot, had he been an officer it would have been a DFC. Did well though to survive and finally end up a Wing Commander.

Greatest respect for those young men who did so much against the odds.

Allan : quite correct - he was Sergeant Pilot RAFVR until 3rd December 1941 when he was Gazetted as Pilot Officer with seniority from 27 November 1941 . RIP Wing Commander
