Classic British Flight Sim

Hope you don't mind me putting this thread up as I know some here have IL2 and may not be aware of this important free update.


Just a HU for those who have IL-2 Cliffs of Dover the big free update to 4.5 is now out and can be downloaded from Steam.

Many changes have been made some good some not so good depending on how you see it but in a nutshell a new aircraft has been added, the Beaufighter along with cannons......Also you will find that you now cannot just start the engine of the Hurricane,Spitfire etc and expect to taxi and take-off straight away, the engines have to warm up and as I found to my cost whilst waiting for the temps to increase got killed on the ground by a marauding 109 whilst on the ATAG Server!! The Hurris and Spits now have working mirrors and better scenery also they have even introduced a new Hurricane fighter bomber!!

You will also find that you have to remap your settings i.e. joystick key settings but it is worth it. Just remember to delete or rename il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder in Documents/1C SoftClub (not the MOD one) as a new one will be made and don't delete your start icon as they have made sure that you can still use the older version (4.3) if you want to. So in a nutshell you now have the choice of flying online with either 4.3 or 4.5.

Hi DaveG, just another link which will be extremely useful for upgrading from 4.3 to 4.5

Please read the PDF file that will give all the necessary information. Incidently one huge imrovement is the black-out effect on the pilot when pulling high G, although I have not pulled to the maximum I found that the the screen starts to grey out when in a tight turn. if applying max G turns and from what I have been told, you then get tunnel vision. Going to try it out later so the effects are much better than before.

Hi Paul K, no this is the update for IL2- Cliffs of Dover from 4.3 to 4.5. Team Fusion which consists purely of volunteers who are programmers and who play IL2 managed after a lot of negotiations with the company who released this simulation were given the coding and permission to upgrade Cliffs of Dover.

This upgraded release was to be free and come with a lot of improvements. As time neared for its' release a number of beta testers took on the job of giving it a thorough trial, during this time a number of faults were noted and despite some criticism such as the engines do not sound like Merlins and there was no wind noise when the canopy was opened in flight these were not going to be addressed.

Fatal_Error who runs our Squadron 'The Wrecking Crew' is highly regarded throughout ATAG and has, along with other senior members of ATAG, put forward some suggestions and one from Fatal was to release 4.5 as a separate update leaving 4.3 so members can fly in both simulations should they not be able to either run 4.5 or prefer to stay with 4.3 and some servers are now showing that. Many changes are different sounds, different performance 64 bit only, dx11 only, controls now contain the number of the controller like rudders d6741321 so windows will see them where they are supposed to be.

4.5 is effectively Cliffs of Dover Battle of Britain but with more improvements than ever and was renamed Blitz (copyright). Team Fusion are now concentrating on a brand new release which will be 5. North African Campaign and will be completely different to 4.3 and 4.5 and there will be a price for it when released.

No, Paul is correct. On Steam, if you own the original CoD, this is listed as a separate complete download.

Am I blind or what I cannot seem to see an entry for the HAT switch in settings,

I had to change the Pan View settings manually to get my HAT switch to work.

Hi Nigel, yes, as Dave says, when you go to v4.5 in Steam, it becomes a new separate download named Blitz, but you can keep the older version (4.3 ?) in your library too. I've deleted the older version, but it is still there for me if I need to re-download it. Looking forward to exploring this as Team Fusion has already worked wonders with the sim.
