Classic British Flight Sim

Went to post a reply and as I clicked submit I got this:

I have been unable until now to post this query.

I have Kaspersky Total Protection and get Kaspersky Secure Connection with 200mb of data protection and once that is reached it stops unless of course I purchase it.

When I went to view my internet connection at the bottom right hand side of the taskbar it showed that my Wifi is connected to Sky as well as some-one close by who is with Virgin but at the top there was a picture of a bench and next to it written unidentified network and below no internet access. This bench disappeared once Kaspersky Secure Connection stopped running. Incidentally there are several servers around Europe for this software and is randomly chosen, in this case it was Germany.

Could some-one have been trying to access my Wifi or could it have been the Kaspersky Secure Connection although I have never seen the bench come up before nor do I understand why I got blocked from posting a reply on this Forum.

Any help as to why this occurred appreciated.

Reading in between the lines.. this has absolutely nothing to do with your security software. You could be the Bank of England and still get blocked if someone in that particular block of IP addresses is spamming and the spamming gets reported. The 'block' doesn't usually last for long.

I've no idea what the 'bench' is you're seeing.. unless it's a block of lines then lines indicate signal strength.

Likewise, the unidentified network with no internet access. It could be a Wi-Fi hub running an internal network.

As I said before, unless you give someone the MAC address on your Sky hub.. you won't get folk piggy-backing your internet connection. They'll be able to see it as you can see others but that's as far as it will go.

Hi Dave, thanks for your reply. Had me worried until I found that I could post here again, as for the bench it was an actual picture showing a bench but the signal lines are beside my connection showing strength of signal.

A bit of checking shows the 'bench' icon indicates a public network. You don't want that sitting next to your connection otherwise you've done something wrong!!

Hi Dave and many thanks, did a bit of searching and found when I went to my Network and Sharing Centre the park bench was there so I disabled it, then I noticed that 'Kaspersky Secure Connection' stopped working, not bothered about that really as said before it allows me 200Mb of data before the allowance is used up unless I pay something like £19 licence so that it runs all the time.

In a nutshell the public bench symbol is public sharing and I think 'Kaspersky Secure Connection' uses that from various countries to connect to me even though it does what it says.

Bit confusing but at least now I know I have done nowt wrong and won't get that dreaded midnight knock on the door!

Have you also set up a secure Wi Fi code - can be a bit of a pain, but at least it can stop one's neighbours from using your Wi Fi for free......

I don't understand mate Sky boxes come with a MAC address which is unique to that box. If you don't know what it is.. you'll not be able to access it. Knowing Nigel.. he's zipped up tighter than a nun's wotsit!!

I've got 2 Wi Fi repeaters so as to get coverage all round our house & they carry the same security code as my base station but have to have that entered manually. Can't remember the correct acronym as it was set up by my IT friendly son!

Hi Keith, when I set up my Wifi and to connect I used the code that came with the hub, are you able to change that to another code? In other words, will it let me? All I did was to enter the code that came with the hub, the instructions were in a small booklet but nothing about whether or not you can change it.

How true that is Dave, since coming back on-line my passwords are quite long, in fact I have to have them on hand to remember which passwords are for which sites and they are stored in the Kaspersky Vault (which is encrypted) took a long time for me to memorise the password in order to access the vault so I could access the passwords!

With my Orange France 'Live Box' by Thompson, I have an internal IP address xxx.xxx.x.x format which I can access by using password 'admin'. Once there I can change things. When setting up my Netgear Wi Fi repeaters the same happens I think - again my son fixed that & he could change the name which shows up on screen if you use your mobile phone, laptop or Ipad & shows each signal strength. There is a setting though which he changed so that maximum use is made & I cannot remember what that was.......
