I am thinking about an upgrade and looking at: -

Need to get it right, as it will probably be the last main one I will attempt.

Intel Core I7 6700 4GHz processor
16GB DDR4 2400 MHz memory
Asus Z170 Mobo
525GB SSD
2TB HD
8GB GTX1070 GPU
800Watt PSU
DVD Drive

Any comments/suggestions/alternatives welcomed

Hi Graham,
Not that it'll affect performance, but you may find that a blu-ray drive won't cost any more, but will play everything a DVD will, plus more. (that's what I've heard anyway)

Good luck with it, Matey!

Sounds good Graham, is it an upgrade on your present computer or are you going for a new one? Either way, it sounds to be a good setup, I have an Asus Mobo and have no complaints.

Regards
Nigel.

Looks good to me. If you can stretch to it, get the 6700k cpu rather than the normal 6700. That's unlocked so you can overclock it if you want to at some point. :cpu:

Looks like an excellent system. One thing to think about, I was looking at big SSD drives yesterday and saw a 2TB SSD for about 500-600$US, so you should be able to find one for a reasonable price and do without the spinning metal.

On the other hand SSD's appear to have a specific read/write life & some windows programs seems to read/write a lot. I have a SSD for the main program, but my FS programs & personal files I keep on the HDD (backed up on USB sticks, 'cos I forget to put them on my spare second smaller SSD!)

Not being rude chaps, but over busy with RW at the moment.

Many thanks for all your replies - duly noted.

The hard part now approaches - unpicking my wallet - not a pleasant prospect for a Yorkshireman. :-#
