Came across this on my homepage although I have not downloaded and the offer is only until tomorrow just wondering if anyone knows of this software. In other words.......is it as good as they say it is?
or just another way of trying to sell you a product?

Hmmmm, The old 'if looks too good to be true' adage probably applies here.

Absolutely !!!
A quick web search of 'Scanguard' (the name from the above link, as opposed to 'Scan Guard' used in the title) throws up many worrying links.
The PC magazines that I have been reading (and trusting) for many years have never mentioned, or reviewed this product. From their recommendations, Kaspersky Internet Security has for the last few years consistently come out as the top payware anti-virus software. Likewise, AVAST trumps the freeware section (although it does contain a lot of 'nagware', trying to get you to upgrade to the payware version). As well as these, the following are also highly recommended -
Malwarebytes (Free)
Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit (Free)
ADWCleaner (Free)
and Spybot Search and Destroy (Free edition)
All but Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit (Free), don't run in the background, but have to be run manually.
Microsoft Security Essentials was reviewed as the worst freeware AV tested - even Microsoft said not to use it as a standalone AV program.
Regards
Kevin

I have used the Avast free version for many years, and found it to be very satisfactory apart from, as Kevin says, being nagged to upgrade about once a fortnight. However, this is not really a problem as the nag quickly goes away

Many thanks for the HU on that Kevin, have now downloaded Avast and using that instead.

I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials for years (under W10 it is called Defender). I have never yet been infected by a virus and in fact it has caught and blocked many attempts which others have failed to find. This includes Malwarebytes and BitDefender which I have running simultaneously. In actuality it is a bit of a nuisance at times finding false positives.
I am wary of some of these so called 'reviews'. Many are partisan for one reason or another, then of course the anti MS rhetoric that runs throughout the internet.
Otherwise MSE is unobtrusive and is updated daily. What's not to like - it's free.

Hi Alex, one reason I have finished using it is that I cannot update it nor can I update any window 7 updates, I left the computer on all day and it was still not downloading or showing available updates so I need to something to protect me and now using Avast.

Nigel.

I don't understand that at all. Are you saying that you can't update Defender and that Defender is stopping Win7 updates?? Can you update Win7 now you have Avast installed?

I had a similar problem after reformat of Win7 Dave. All went well until service pack one and the just permanent searching for updates.
