For those forum members who fly throughout the world - which FSX navigation system is the most favoured?

I much regret the demise of FS Navigator in FS9 days.

FSTramp (payware but not much) is the FSX equivalent of FS Navigator.

Then there is FS Commander, excellent but it doesn't do anything in the vertical plane which Tramp does (much like FSN did)

I use freeware Plan G, which is excellent.

One of the many things I like is that it can be run on a network, so I have P3D running on my desktop, and Plan G on my laptop.

FSTramp was created by the same guy who did FSNav and it looks and works like FSNav with vast improvements. It now has coloured terrain on the map and it's vertical height data is much more accurate.

It's one drawback is that you can't create flight plans in it (unless you get the latest version, see below) but you can import flight plans created in the stock FSX flight planner (and others).

The creator caused some controversy earlier this year when he announced that he was adding the flight planning capabilities of FSNav (finally) in his newest version ... but ... the program would be going to a yearly subscription so you would have to buy a new licence for it every year!

This upset a lot of people at the time and many (myself included) decided to stay with the previous version (without flight planning) as it has a lifetime licence.

Have health issues at present and current southern UK weather does not help.

Thanks for the replies. I had a look at a video by Squirrel Airways on YouTube and the author seemed to use Sim Commander.

News about the FSx version of FSNavigator is very interesting, I shall have to go and have a look at that later this week.

FsNav was a fantastic product under FS9. FsTramp looks very much like it BUT it will only run in windowed mode if you are using FSX Acceleration under Windows 7 and it costs a fortune, £27.90 for one year, £74.40 for four years. Outrageous! I can do without it.

It's only the latest version of FSTramp that has the added flight planning capabilities and the extortionate costs. The previous version is a 'pay once, use forever' licence. It works (and looks) like FSNav with the exception of being able to build a flight plan but you can import flight plans created elsewhere.

Using it in windowed mode doesn't bother me as I have a second monitor that I throw it onto along with all the other windows I don't want cluttering up my view.

Another freeware option is VfrFlight.
