Good Morning All,

We'll it has been 5 days on and off trying to install FSX and I managed to an install yesterday only to have error 1722 come up at the end :wall:

Dave you said not to do a reformat of XP but install W7, so which version do you recommend ?

Cheers,

Roger.

Hiya Roger :hello:

My advice would be to get a 64-bit version. The OS came in many different guises.. Home Edition, Professional, Ultimate to name but 3 and there were 32-bit and 64-bit versions of all. Whichever one you can find.. go for a 64-bit version. While this won't transform your FSX in one quick swoop.. it will allow your PC to use all the available memory. Any 32-bit Windows OS can only address a smidge over 3gig regardless of what you have plugged into the motherboard and with FSX geared to run on 4gig.. you can see how OOM's and other problems can and will arise!! I guess the norm for a Win7 rig is 8gig of system ram. It will run on less for sure but 8gig will give you a fair amount of breathing space.
If you only have 4gig installed (which is likely if you have a 32-bit version of WinXP).. Win7 64 of whichever flavour will run fine on it but you'll gain advantages with more ram. I like Win7. It's very similar to WinXP but far more bullet-proof. If you see Win Vista available.. leave it alone. Vista came before Win7 and was a bit of a dog. You might consider Win8, Win8.1 or Win10 (the latest version) but to be honest.. I don't like any of these much. See what's knocking around and what the prices are but definitely leave Vista out of any considerations ;)

I'm certainly very happy with my desktop using W8.1 pro 64 bit 6 core job that used to be my son's 'puter. Compared to my older W7 32 bit set up, I find W8.1 faster to load up & with Sophos free that runs in the background I'm happy.
Laptop ( a very basic model) runs OK on W10 with FSX running slightly better that FS9.
Not sure though that you are into that expense?
Good luck
Keith

Hello Keith,

To be honest except for some HD addon aircraft XP has been ok for me using FSX, after trying to fix my install problem it is FSX at fault, I think in the registry, fs2004 loaded ok but I just can't go back to it, I run European Truck Sim and that runs fine but as Dave has said W7 would in crease the gig.

Cheers,

Roger.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the link, i have seen this and a load of others saying how to fix this error,

I have read an article this week that made more sense than any i came across and that implied that it was due to a Registry problem, Microsoft's Utility Clean Up Tool may have worked back in 2006/7 when they were into FSX but once the gave flight sim the Evho nobody there were interested!

I have had this PC for four years and have done an re-install i think twice and i have never had a problem so i have been lucky i suppose, Oh well i think a fresh OS is in order.

Thanks again,

Roger.
