Missing textures and scenery items

During the discussions about the BP Defiant, George showed us how to get a message about missing BMPs etc.

I'm now getting so many errors, that I'm about to do a complete uninstall of FSX and all my scenery, and starting from scratch.
Only bother is that also I get FRESNELL RAMP, TED'S GLASS etc errors when I go to the hangar. Don't know if these have dropped out of FSX, or the aircraft themselves.
Possibly when I took out a couple of variations, eg. Harriers, which came in about a dozen models, what I deleted, took the BMP with it. :dunno:

Mike..

There's no Fresnel Ramp associated with Ted's hangars or JY's Harriers. Ted's hangars have 2 glass maps.. one for day and the other for night. Go to your original zip and drop these two files back into your Ted's Hangars texture folder.

While missing textures can slow your FSX down, it's probable that some of the reports are referencing textures that are no longer required so unless you're seeing a texture which is obviously missing.. I'd turn off the reporting function and regain a bit of sanity  This has got to be easier than reinstalling FSX ;)

If you don't have the original zip for Ted's hangars.. I'll send you the two glass textures :cpu:

Not totally convinced that the solution is to hide the messages so that I can't see them :dunno: From the earlier discussion, it seems that FS spends heaps of time looking for these missing bits, and therefore slows down.

I discovered what FRESNELL RAMP means, and have to wonder if its absence affects everything in the sim, or just one model/object.

That's what I said

From my experience, Fresnel Ramps are associated with individual models rather than being 'sim wide' though there are various Fresnel maps scattered all over the shop. This leads me to believe that you've deleted a Fresnel_ramp associated with either a model or a scenery object. All the default models use Fresnel_ramps but many addon models do not. I don't see any Fresnel_ramp maps associated with Ted's hangars so it's either missing from the model you're in or a static at your location. Does the error not tell you where it is?

My point is that if it's causing you so much grief and you don't know where it is.. turn reporting off rather than reinstalling the sim. Reinstalling the sim will cure it but you'll have no addons. Seems a little drastic to me.

Lots of models use a frensel ramp texture, they're mostly the same so you could copy one from an aircraft and pop it in your main texture folder. Don't worry if it's DDS or BMP, it's all the same to the sim.

Thank you, both Davei :)
True, DB, you DID say that. Apart from the textures, I'm also told that there are something like 30 missing scenery objects, none of which are findable on the internet by me, so the slowdown might be substantial. George looked for 3 and came up with zero.

Putting a missing texture in the main folder is real news to me, might try that!

I won't waste any more of your time on this now; it is possible that when I was playing around with Barra, I may have removed some of my own objects, and their ghosts still wander the valleys of cyberland. If I disable Barra, they might go away.
I will post something later to update. Cheers.

Lordie lordie!! If George can't find 'em.. there's no point me looking

Yup.. dropping a Fresnel_ramp into your main texture folder is a cracking idea. I'd not have come up with that in a million years. DG is clever like that

Disable your Barra and if your missing objects don't error.. you'll know you're onto a winner.. of sorts.
