Classic British Flight Sim

Ok... so just getting back into FS, purchased FSX from Steam, installed,it runs... played around with graphic settings because my laptop is not the newest. I have reasonable [not great] quality now and around 25-30fps mostly, but I get this annoying pulsing or jerking continually. Even when the aircraft is stationary, it is as if something is trying to slightly change the viewing perspective. During flight, despite the fps remaining more or less constant, the terrain behind seems to freeze momentarily. This occurs continuously every second or two.

I am running FSX Steam edition on Win10 and the machine is a Dell Inspiron laptop with an Intel Core i3 @ 2.13Ghz, 8GB RAM, Intel Graphics.

The effect seems to be independent of the graphics settings in FSX and the resulting frame rate.

As it is a dynamic effect, short of videoing my screen, I'm not sure how to demonstrate it to you. Anyone have idea what could be causing it?

Disk io could be an issue Toby, especially if it's an older 5400rpm unit. An SSD might give you a new lease of life.

Over-active Anti virus software maybe?

Forgot to mention I have an SSD and there's no activity, at least the disk light isn't flashing when it happens. I'm running AVG. Might try going offline and killing all unneeded processes to see if that has an effect. Strange thing is, I don't recall it doing this in FS2004, but then I probably last ran that in anger on this same machine on Windows 7...

I don't know if this is of any help, but someone asked about a similar problem in the latest issue of PCPilot.

The reply was that FSUIPC was continually autosaving the flight.
The fix - open the FSUIPC interface and look at the autosave tab. Check that 'Autosave' has not been ticked.

Obviously, if you do not have FSUIPC then this will be of no help.

Hi Toby, are you viewing the a.c. from outside when seeing the pulsing, is it in the spot view, or locked spot?
Also maybe try have a look at the mouse. Do you use an external mouse. Try turning it off , it might be moving just a wee bit.

Pulsing seems to be much less noticeable in the cockpit view. Outside (any outside view) seems to be bad.

Tried disabling all other running programs incl. antivirus, seemingly makes no difference. Tried disconnecting mouse, external HDD, USB stick, no difference.

Maybe I just need a new machine?
