A Conundrum ...

Ever since MilViz released the F-4E, there's something that's been on my mind rather a lot. They, like several other manufacturers, make a point of saying that you should not only "run FSX as administrator" but also install the aircraft with "run as administrator". All fine and good, but what about when you want to uninstall the aircraft ? Surely, if you needed those elevated privileges to write files into some folders, you would need the same privileges to delete those files as well ...

Assuming you didn't use the admin privileges to uninstall the aircraft, would it be the case that some files would be left behind leading to who knows what in terms of either wasted space or funny issues with the sim after that ? Or would it be the case that the uninstaller would be set to automatically run with those privileges if the aircraft had been installed that way ?

And finally, would "run as administrator" actually make any difference if you have installed FSX away from those awkward Program Files folders ?

Just a few thoughts ...

Hi Ro :hello:

I don't know how useful this will be but I think you probably hit the nail on the head when you mentioned having FSX installed away from those awkward areas. Most of us have it installed this way so I honestly can't see what the difference is. Of course.. complex aircraft will write dll entries which may or may not go into dll.xml contained in the FSX folder along with the cfg and other odds and sods residing on C: drive and the F4 is probably one of those. The worst that could happen is that these entries are left in situ but it's a simple matter to open the file yourself and remove the entry. FSX will still run happily with them there :)
