Screenie: Alphasim Dauphin and Friend

Post by FlyTexas »

A view from the control tower at Dallas Love Field in FSX. I was watching a replay of my landing when the rising Moon passed behind the Dauphin. Pure luck getting this pic. The Dauphin is by Alphasim, and the Moon textures are by Marco Fischbach. The default Moon textures in FSX are 64x64...these are 1024x1024. They're even bump-mapped.

Did you see the post over at SoH re the EC135?? 'I've just bought this in a sale (he said) and I can't find a USCG paint for it'. He then posted links to pics of the real thing and.. you've guessed it.. it was a Dauphin :poke:  :wall:  Not sure if it was the fenestron that fooled him but when he bought the EC135, he was convinced it was the same helicopter as in the shots he posted!! What'a mistak'a to make'a

Yep, I saw that. :agree: That's what led me to dust off the Alphasim Dauphin and take her for a quick flight. Here's a pic of the model I was flying in the moon shot. :-O

It doesn't look too bad at that distance and thankfully.. you've spared us an inside shot  I re-did the lettering on the RN version which you can have if you want. The paint is identical.. just the ROYAL NAVY title a bit more closer to the real thing rather than 'any font will do'

I'd definitely appreciate a copy of your RN paint Dave. Thanks! :) I've been putting the Dauphin to good use buzzing ships in Henrik's latest update to his AI shipping add-on. The USCG paint looks at home over the US Great Lakes. All I've come across so far is bulk carriers but I'm still searching for a cargo ship with a helipad. :)

I've been out trying to find those naughty looking fast patrol boats around Bergen. After over an hour looking.. I found I was dozing off (I was in the Catalina) so landed and went to plan B.. The Mighty Hunter!! Got em all thank you very much  I'll have to fit that search radar into the Cat too

I did try the Dauphin again today.. was surprised I still had it loaded actually :worried: I ended up crashing close to Culdrose with the model in one of those 'spins of death' so common in FS9 and in pretty much every Alpha helicopter. I'll get those maps sent up. Hang in there ;)

EDIT: HERE we go..

Thanks very much for the repaint Dave. :hello: I like your idea about using fixed wing aircraft to search for ships. I should now be able to search a much larger area a lot quicker. :) So without further adieu, say hello to my new little helper.

Stunning picture Brian

Ok, Dave, Brian chose Orion as his "Mighty Hunter"; did you do the same, or did you go for Nimrod?
