Recording FSX video for you tube etc?

Hi All
Some of you blokes have put recordings of FSX activity up on You Tube.
Is this an expensive process please? I saw one screen capture at about $300; that's out of the question.
I have a couple of cheapo video software progs, but they refuse to play frc files.
Any help would be appreciated.

Nope, in fact, it's pretty much simple, and either cheap or free. I have FS Recorder 2.18 alpha, and it has a video rendering feature that lets you record videos; however, it only records video (AFAIK). Otherwise, I use Fraps, one of the most popular pieces of software for capturing video on PC.
Psst! If you're using .frc, you have to play an .frc file in FS Recorder (obv. via FS), then, record gameplay using external means, i.e. Fraps.

I have found that Bandicam gives very smooth results, only snag is that the free version only allows 10 mins recording time per recording...not really a problem as one can pause at 10 min then restart recording & unpause! It does though carry a watermark. If you pay for it the time is unlimited & watermark is removed.
For editing video I use Microsoft Movie Maker, it allows saving in umpteen formats including I think for youtube & of course its free.

If you've got a recent nVidia card, you could use
ShadowPlay.

Many thanks for the GeForce Shadowplay link Dave, now that will come in handy for some video shots.
Thank you Mike for asking the question, you have made me quite happy now that I can get me a free recorder!!
Regards
Nigel.

Thanks for the responses, fellas!
Unfortunately, my Nvidia is only a GTX 560, which in its day

was nearly the bees knees, but not now! Shadowplay is beyond my card.
I had a Movavi icon on the screen, but maybe I've had it for too long; it didn't run.
To cut a long story short, I've installed the free trial of Bandicam (silent movie).
Taken half a dozen recordings, but don't have editing tools yet.
Right now, I'm unsure whether BANDICUT only comes with the purchased version.
Again, thank you all for your help and comments.
PS Enjoy it, Nigel......and don't forget to post something for us to watch!

Didn't get on with Bandicut, hence the M$ movie maker. I used to have a good Nero suite, but thats payware & is now old hat!

I Use MSFS instant reply to queue a camera angle (FS Recorder causes frame drops and it edits the FS files to add a tab in the toolbar, and who knows what)
I use fraps for the recorder (has a smaller watermark than bandicut)
and WMM to make a video up of more than one clip.
but if you have a thirty second video that shows everything you want, you can upload the video fraps makes directly to you tube

Didn't know that you could save instant replay, I'll try that Joe.
George, I'll give that a go, too. Saw some comments that Bandicam was superior to FRAPS, so I jumped that way.
Nothing set in concrete yet, and apart from including some moving images on AFV, I don't have a huge need for it.
I do like to poke around with the possibilities of our hobby, I guess that's my motive.
