Barra fine tuning

G'day,
Some of you may recall that I did a terminal and associated bits for Barra, enhanced with some borrowed animated people, and parked vehicles.
The big problems were that the sandy runways I added with ADE did not blend, and the surrounding scenery was yucky default FSX.
Came that big sale; I hopped into another bunch of VFR/Gen X/Horizon/Playsims, whatever.
Included in that lot was The Western Isles, with a lovely photoreal Barra Is.
As I'd been told earlier, Horizon built the airport from FSX default objects , which many of you will be familiar with.
Having studied it for so long, it irked me.
Solution: our old friend Instant Scenery.
Called up the Horizon file, deleted CT, 2 green sheds plus some cars that were in the way.
Inserted my bgls, and whilst it needs a bit more tweaking, I've done a "fly by the Fly be" and decided to share it with you:

Hi Mike :hello:

It certainly looks the part

I'm not sure if Horizon are to blame with the Barra airport.. Horizon only put the textures and mesh underneath it so it's default FSX and very unlike the real thing (as they all are truth to tell) 8) Yours looks much better :cpu:

Mike , G'day . Not only can he fix Condor artificial horizons but tweak to obtain a delightful Barra . Is there no end to this man's talents ? .............
.......sorry to say I'm still a luddite and using fs9 . Maybe this winter I'll gather some info and decide how /wot to upgrade to .

Thanks for a lovely shot , just heard Yogibair [ Loganair , Frybe franchise ] has registered 2 new Viking air Twotter 400s , in expectation of maintaining the Scottish Office subsidised links to Barra and other Hebridean destinations .
It's true the only replacement for a Twotter is a Twotter ; guess Islanders are similar , but don't wear out ..

Mr DB,
Beg to differ on this point, as the default FSX Barra is a few kilometers up North, and absolutely nothing like the real layout.
If you dig into the Vol 4 folder, there's a group of Airports. dig into them and you find EGPR.afx. Opening that in IS (Instant Scenery, not those other b******s) allows you to select and delete the offending buildings, cars and light pole.
I'm scouring my scenery libs, looking for a suitable diagonally-constructed fence. The one which I made contains a frightening number of polys, so I chose not to use it.

Mr DF,
You and your mates are working on the REAL stuff, mine's all pretend :$

Mike , shhh :shhh: keep it to yourself , but even the real thing is just pretend . And the last few years before handing the Boeing keys back , I'd practice at home on fs9 . B4 my sim checks !
Certainly until very recently fs visuals were better than professional ones.

rgds dave f .

just growing old , not up .

OK, the fence is built, and I've knocked up a pair of 30 second videos to show what it looks like from ground level:

They're rough, but it covers the subject cheaply.

The first vid plays ok Mike but the link for the second says it's unavailable *-)

It's looking good mate. Not sure about that rather large orange windsock though. Is that a default?

Sorry, Dave, can't read my own writing!
I've edited it now to read 2SDA
I think that the big orange thing is a runway end marker. From some angles, the lights are NEAR their poles but not attached.
They are default, might have to kill them :OB:
EDIT AGAIN You're right-I think it got added by mistake when I was in IS. I'll definitely kill it!

That looks smashing Mike

The animated bods are a nice touch but I find they get a bit tiresome after a while. For a long time.. I flew either to or from the IoS on a daily basis and every time I go there.. the same old AI bod is walking around the terminal building. I dearly love to kill him
