A bit of real aviation (now with video)...

Flew with a friend from Fricktal-Schupfart to Thun and back in Switzerland in a Piper Cub. First time I had been in one for over four years. Very rudimentary and not terribly smooth, but fascinating to look at all the cables and pulleys, running through the cockpit, up the wing struts and along the wings! Excellent visibility today, some bumps in the thermals above the hills.

Lovely Shots Toby...I enjoyed them very much. I would imagine it would be great to be in a Cub over that terrain with plenty of time to study the detail :)

Good medicine for the eyes, Toby!
Many thanks for letting us in.
The yellow paint with National stripe on the tail seem to pop up fairly often.
Do they all belong to one organisation?

I don't think so, pretty sure "ours" belongs to the club that my friend is a member of. There are some slight differences in the liveries, the other one parked near us had red wing tips for example. I think the basic "Cub yellow" with black stripe is common to many (all?) Cubs and the Swiss paint their flag on everything!

Bootiful Bor , just had a grey day in a grey hangar so to see these is really uplifting . Thank you . Are you anywhere near Zurich ? 'Cos there used to be a power station by a river on the standard arrival to ZRH , but we were a bit higher ...... 'tho using cables still on the elevator back up system on 737s ! And T/props are mostly cable operated even in hi-tech planes .

rgds dave f .

apols... if 73s wind you up Toby , or is that another member ?

Lovely photos! I've ridden in Cubs a few times but only over a very boring flat country ;)
