MilViz P-38L Released

A quick HU for those who've been keeping a finger on the pulse with the MilViz P-38L (and for those who had no idea).. it's been released!

http://milviz.com/flight/

The purchase is in 3 versions.. FSX/SE.. P3D (same price) or an installer for both which is about $10 more. Quality is all you'd expect from MilViz and.. it runs ok on my i5.. certainly no worse than the F-15 or Bell 407. The installer offers the option of hi-res or normal textures.. I chose Hi-Res but without the relevant changes being made to your FSX.cfg.. this may be wasted. I did change mine to 2046 but I fear this has reset.

Whatever.. it's a lovely model with an excellent selection of skins.. many by JanKees Blom so again.. you know what you're getting. Price for the FSX or P3D version is $39.99.. £27.11 in real money. Check out the link above for full details ;)

Hello Dave,

They did a great job :) But It's a little to big and cumbersome for a 100 dollar burger ride.
.... you mentioned the 407,
I've been thinking of purchasing another AC for FSX ...been kicking the wheel attire of A2A's 172.. I have their 377 and it's sooo good I've been leaning to wards A2A for my next aircraft.. Until I saw the the Milviz 407.. wow

first hurdle, (thinking aloud)
will my i3 4gig laptop with intel graphics handle either one ?
It's not too bad of a machine really .. I have FLIGHT's graphics up to a decent level and muli sim with
Peter M. without much shuddering.. But I think the network connection causes a lot of them.

I have the DoDoSim 206 and get good FR with it.
The Lionheart Epic LT is a bit hard on FR, with all the glass, as well as Iris's DA 42
yet the Grob SPn, with it's four big screens, is not a problem :dunno:

Cheers.

Joe

Joe.. did you read the minimum system spec for the 407??
System Requirements (Minimum):
OS: Windows Vista, Windows 7
(use in all other versions of Windows is unsupported)
Processor: 2.6 Ghz or higher
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: DirectX®9 compliant video card or greater, 1024 MB video RAM or higher
Hard Drive: 1.2 GB available space
FSX Version: FSX Acceleration
FSX:Steam Edition is currently not supported; this product may not be 100% compatible at this time.
P3Dv2 Version: P3Dv2
I've no experience with i3's at all nor the Dodo 206 so any performance comment would be futile. I note MilViz are careful to add 'or i5 equivalent' with the P-38L (not present on the 407 spec) so perhaps they've found it to be a little more hungry than the 407. Let's put it this way.. the 407 is by far the heaviest helicopter I have on FR's but my i5 (3.3-3.7gig) hangs onto it ok for the most part (8gig DDR3, Win7 Ultimate, Palit GTX560Ti 1.2gig DDR5). The P-38L with HD textures is certainly a bit heavier.. I may just uninstall it and select 'normal' textures to ease the burden on the system.

I've just had a look at the map sizes of both and they're 2048 (wasn't sure whether to expect 4096 on the P-38). I don't remember an option on the 407 for smaller maps and I don't see an option in the MV Config manager to change them either. *-)

In the end Joe.. I can't really advise one way or the other. All I CAN say is that it's at the upper end of what I'm comfortable with on the i5.

Yes Dave, i read the minimuns , maybe I'll have a look at some thing else.
Thanks for your comments, it's not as easy as 123,
for instance, the mins may be with the AC on highest with scenery on highest
.. so cut them back a bit and my laptop may do the job.
Wishful thinking perhaps.

Cheers :)

Yup.. I find that if my pc is at the minimum spec for something.. I don't bother. Some things show a minimum spec that my rig exceeds in all areas and it will still run like a 3-legged dog!!

Perhaps going down the A2A route will decide for you ;)
