This- Is A Large Crisis...

Gents,

I've had to uninstall FSX- it was getting scrappy, installation of a certain product made all my menus look greyed out, FSUIPC was causing issues with a couple of add on's and it wasn't well at all.

SO, I've done a full uninstall using a few sources to make this effective then tried to reinstall.

It does so, but at no point does it ask for the licence key. It then runs 30 mins and shuts down saying something like "hey, thanks for trying now you need to activate".

If it'd give me the opportunity- I would. :wall:

I've tried 3 un/reinstalls. Same result.

Any ideas???

Thanks,

Paul

G'day Paul,
If you list your FSX files on screen, (My Computer/C:/FSX in my case) at the end of all the folders (yellow boxes) there will be some files listed.
About 3 down is Activation. The description comes up as Activation Wizard on mine.
Now mine won't do anything, and I assume that's because the activation is remembered.
You might double click and see if it does anything for you.
Here's hoping.....
Cheers

Hi Paul, I take it that you just uninstalled FSX and nothing else? If so then the registry should still accept your reinstall without having to register FSX again as that will only normally happen if you had formatted your hard drive and it would assume that you were installing FSX for the first time as all registry settings would have been deleted.

I had the same problem some time ago when FSX was crashing, all I can suggest is that if you uninstall FSX again first do acceleration then FSX by using the disc. After that go into the drive you installed FSX on and delete all the folders including the main FSX Folder, after that go to C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX and delete all FSX files and folders then reinstall FSX.

Can't think of any other way round it unless a FSX guru comes along.

Regards
Nigel.

Ok,

Sod this. I can get it to give me the opportunity to input my activation code. Uninstalled-reinstalled-uninstalled-reinstalled....
It's driving me mad.

EDIT::::::::::read Nev's post below before doing anything else.

Holy bovine, you're still in trouble!
If I was in this situation, I would run through this:
Uninstall FSX and Acelleration.
Check all drives (other than CD/DVD) to see if any files remain with the expression FSX or Flight Simulator in them.

If the only files remaining are Sim Objects and Add on scenery, try creating 2 new folders...Hold Objects and Hold Scenery.
This is to quarantine all your added aircraft, ships and scenery.
Go to Sim Objects, Select All, Copy and then go to Hold Objects and Paste.
Do the same to make a copy of all your extra Scenery.

Search again, ask to show "Hidden Files" and see what still contains those expressions.
Unless they are desired add ons like Rex, Accu-Sim etc., delete everything that is not in your 2 Hold folders.

Try another install.

I truly feel for you, Paul.

Hurrah!

It worked! Thanks very much for the help, it's now reinstalled and working well.
I'm going to keep it as uncluttered as I can now, and choose carefully what I reinstall. Hopefully I'll not get to this state again.

Thanks again,

Paul
