REX Soft clouds??

G'day All,
Received the offer, as you all have by now.
Does anybody know whether this is just a cheap alternative to REX and REX plus overdrive, or does it improve everything?
I think it's just a cheapie.
I've read their blurb, but can't decide. :dunno:

it "just" another alternative cloud set, but with softer, volumetric looking clouds.
I've got it, & prefer it over the REX clouds in Texture Direct, which IMHO look artificially sharp and painted.

Thanks Dave, ;)
At US$10, it's a snip.

I'm using it and looks good. As you say, a snip at the price.

Got it tonight and I like it, but surely it should have been an add in for Texture Direct. Now I have to use REX 3 to get weather, REX 4 TD for textures other than clouds, and Soft Clouds for could textures. REX is great, but the product range is a mess.

They are planning an update to integrate Soft Clouds into the Rex Texture Direct user interface.

I use Rex Essentials + OD for just it's cloud textures, and Opus as the weather engine. I've been wondering about Rex soft clouds for a few weeks and based on this thread, I think I'll splash out. :)

Despite claims of no frame hit.. I'm seeing a hit on the i5. I keep going back to try out the various sets but to be honest.. I can barely tell the difference between them. I may try the DXT5 option but with a warning that using this might cause undesirable artefacts.. what does one do? :dunno: The volumetric effect isn't fool proof either. While the effect is better than all that came before it.. it will still leave some areas with 'sharp' cutoff's.. this with default scenery too. It's not as visually poo as non-volumetric clouds.. not by a long way.

Yup.. integration into REX4 is planned though how this is to be done isn't certain yet. It could be 'full' integration or as a module. I read a note on the REX forums to say that users upgrading to REX4 'after' integration who already have Soft Clouds, will be eligible for a refund on the purchase price :)

Thanks Daves, that sounds promising. I hadn't actually read their forum, but thought it was worth a punt. I might take a few screen shots now :)

I've tried the DXT5 option but again.. couldn't see any visible difference and it didn't help my FR's either. I changed back to REX E+OD clouds (same time.. same place using ASN) and the whole plot was smoother. I may be the odd one out here but can only report what I see :cpu:
