I have XP Pro but the PC is dragging its heels of late locking up for ages, decided to fresh install Win 7 Pro, all speedy and good. Installed FS9 and it ran on, then emptied the FS9 folder and copied over my original XP FS9 folder. Now it wont load just says when loading FS9 windows encountered a problem, dont say what it is and FS9 stops loading.... Any clues as to a quick fix??? I do not want to re install everything as I dont expect to live for 40 years!!

As a starter I would delete the fs9.cfg and allow it to be rebuilt.

Tried that no luck, deleted it all and starting again, I will add bit by bit until I find the issue I think.

First guess Tony is in just transferring your old FS9 folder it has not taken the registry entries. Not expert enough to know what to do except repair FS9 with your original disc.

I don't think repair will work if the SP's were added.

It may be as was suggested earlier that a full 'drag n drop' is too much for the new install.. especially if the old FS9 was heavy with addons. Many of them could have registry keys so will need to be installed properly.

I agree with all the comments.

When I migrated FS9 to my current computer, I first made a full copy of the Flight Simulator 9 directory. I then installed FS9 from the original disks onto the new computer. I then fired up the sim to make sure all installed normally. THEN I proceeded to bring over the copied folder to the new computer.

One thing to remember is to make sure the various *cfg files such as the scenerycfg come across in the right location as well, otherwise you will need to reload all the scenery. And there are some addons that need a registry entry, so they will have to be reinstalled - which means preserving your aircraft.cfg, etc., if you've made changes or added textures. You get the picture.

I have it working now but have an issue with the Saitek yoke etc......

As it says in the title, I installed Windows 7 Pro after using XP for years, trying to get FS9 working has been a mission but all ok now, however the Saitek yoke, rudder pedals and throttle quadrant are giving me huge problems.... After days of messing about with it I have it working in a reasonable fashion except for one major issue.....

The Brakes are always on unless I cancel it with the parking brake on/off, then brakes are off. However once I use the toe brakes it shows differential braking on the screen and the brakes stay on unless I go through the rigmarole of parking brake on off....

I have parking brake on off assigned to the yoke button no other brake assignments on the saitek kit other than the toe brakes.

Any help as I am stuck... I deleted the FS9.cfg and rebuilt it so the joystick settings are fresh.

Many thanks Tony

Just a thought Tony.. you don't have 'repeat' selected in assignments for the brakes do you? I'll have to have a look at my assignments but I don't have pedals connected.

EDIT: I don't know if this helps any mate but I have repeat selected for 'Brakes' but not for toe/diff brakes (brake left or right.. F11/F12).

Hi Dave, no I dont have repeat assigned I just have toe brake axis assigned to pedals (no option of repeat)

Hmm.. no, there isn't an option for repeat on F11/F12 (diff brakes) so from what you've said.. you appear to be setup correctly *-) I can't remember if I had brakes mapped to a button on my CH Yoke Pro but I'm pretty sure I did (that's brakes.. not parking brakes) and I had diff brakes assigned to my CH pedals. I do remember the lot going banzai when I added the CH Quad though I did eventually sort it out.. eventually! 8) I'm sure there's an answer here mate but I just can't put my finger on it *-)
