A2A's civilian Mustang MkIV

After a series of rather disappointing purchases from other add-on aircraft manufacturers, I decided to cheer myself up with something I could rely on - i.e. something from A2A. And here she is, my first single-engine Accu-Sim warbird. I'm still learning all about her, but I'm hugely impressed already. By the way I'm never sure whether I should be posting pictures of non-British aircraft in this gallery, so I've called it a MkIV and put an RAF paint on it. Hopefully, nobody will notice.

Hi Paul :hello:

That's a very nice looking model/paint  As large swathes of P51 production was made specifically for the RAF, this lady has no problem making an appearance ;) Lewis tells me you can switch Accu-Sim off (or that the models default to Accu-Sim off).. something I should really look into as it often stops my flying the P47. RTFM again me thinks  As it happens, I recently threw a new Snafu paint on it and managed a short flight without it blowing up

I have the WWII Fighters Mustang (updated to FSX native spec) which I fly every now and again but paints are limited.. they're either pre-FSX conversion or WoP3 and the maps are different. Considering Warbirdsim at the mo :worried:

I did a few Commonwealth paints for the A2A WoPII/WWII Fighters FSX update version Dave 'cus I was sick of looking at US paints all the time. I did 112 Sqn RAF (the 'Sharkmouth' squadron), 234 Sqn RAF, 442 Sqn RCAF (3 paints, 1 camo, 2 bare metal), 3 Sqn RAAF and even one in the Luftwaffe green/yellow evaluation paint they used when testing captured aircraft.

I don't know about the P-47, but in the Mini Controls panel of this Mustang, you can turn damage on or off, which I assume equates to enabling or disabling Accusim. In the Stratocruiser, there is a definite option. I've had to wind down the sim realism settings for the Mustang because I can't cope with the swing on take off, and I'm not sure if that affects Accusim at all. Its a cracking model though, particularly with the modern autopilot, radios and GPS fitted. Not only that, but with a one-line edit of their respective aircraft.cfg entries, repaints for the military model can be used on the civilian one.

I hope you don't mind, but I had to post a picture of this repaint by the highly esteemed Jan Kees Blom - Elizabeth Jane just happens to be the name of my elder daughter. I might send her the link to this thread...she'll be thrilled.

Larry, do those repaints work with the WoP3 Mustang, the current Accusim one ?

To be perfectly honest Paul I can't remember as I did them so long ago. I have a feeling that the WoP3 version was a totally re-built model so the texture mapping would be different. The only way to know for sure would be to download one and compare the texture sheets to see if:

1. They had the same file names.

OR

2. The parts were in the same places on the texture sheet.

If 2 it might be possible to make them work by renaming the file to match the WoP3 naming system.

I don't think I have the WoP3 P51 on this install of FSX but it may be on my old computer (which hasn't been started up in years) so I can't easily check.

Yep Larry, I think the WoP 3 Mustang is a new model altogether. I'd certainly like to see some RAF repaints for it. :)

Larry..

Thanks for that. I already have your Commonwealth paints for it  As I said earlier.. choosing paints for the 'in-between' Mustang is a minefield. I've pulled so many down that are either pre-update or for the WoP3 model, I gave up in the end. Yours were/are for the in-betweener and work a treat

Paul.. I've dug the rubbish out for my P47 and find its NOT the Accu-Sim model after all. Dim-wit! :wall: No wonder I couldn't turn AS off  I've not done a proper install for it in ages.. just dragged all I could find from one build to the next and undoubtedly.. bits have gone along the way. It may be better to remove what I have and start anew ;)

Dave, is it the current WoP3 Thunderbolt that you have, but without the Accusim module ?

Like those Mustang repaints by the way. :)

Hello Mate :hello:

Yes it is :) I could always get the Accu-Sim module for it but life is complex enough without adding to it  I've since dragged all the bits out and installed it properly from the exe :) I've always thought what a butch looking aircraft it is and couldn't resist getting it. However.. expectations can be dashed (as we both know from recent experiences) and a consequence is I like to look at it more than I like to fly it. I have the same 'problem' with a number of models so the P47 is far from unique ;)

I've jumped on the Warbirdsim boat btw :worried:

I’m a big fan of the A2A WoP 2 P51 FS9 version with patch for FSX. I fly it more than anything and it’s got a brilliant flight model, it really feels as though it’s balanced on knife edge especially on climb out, so unlike the “arcade” type flight models of so many FS aircraft. Dare I say it almost feels like you’re flying a real aeroplane!

I have a large number of repaints... try these sites.

I also have the Warbirdsim P51B and Little friends (both bought when on special). They’re good, but for me don’t match the A2A version.

I really should buy the WoP3 version!
